Piss & Moan Table

6'-3" here.

I've been trying to drop weight for 2 years. Get up lift weights, 264. Get up ride my bike, 264. Count calories and work out, 264. Don't work out, stay up late drinking with friends on weekends and eat whatever I want, 264 lbs.

It sucks. I ride my bike 20 miles 3x a week, run every other day. Same weight. 1000 miles riding this year so far and can't lose a pound. Must be an 56 year old thing.

I'm about ready to lift my way to 265 and see if my waist goes down. At least I'd have muscle to show for it.

I'm too old to do 2 a days of cardio and lifting. Can't recover.

When I was much younger, this is how I was, though at much lower weights. I wrestled at 145 in 10th grade (I was over 6' by this point), I had no choice in the matter as that's quite simply how much I weighed and I could not shift it 1 lb, regardless of effort. Ate and shit like a shire horse, tall, lean, had an absurdly high metabolism then.

I cut out ALL alcohol, ALL sugary drinks (including fruit juices - these can actually be pretty bad), ALL snack foods, potatoes, most pasta, most cheese. No carry-out/take-out and don't dine out but once in a blue moon. I eat a lot of chicken and broccoli, a lot. Some beef, tuna (salad), a bit of rice, occasional pasta. A snack might be a handful of lightly salted nuts, sunflower seeds or a spoonful of Justin's PB spread. Skim milk, water and Liquid Death tea for lubricants.

I also don't eat three times a day, and rarely at the same time of day. I eat when I'm definitely hungry and I only make and eat enough to stop the hunger urge. Some days I eat once, occasionally not at all (not typical), sometimes I eat four or five times but in very small portions. Consumption is tied directly to activity level.

At this point I've stagnated a bit, I think I've maxed out what I can get from diet alone. Typically weigh in once a week, usually the same weekday, and I've been bouncing between 192 and 196 for months. I figure if I keep at it like I am and start adding in the activity again (shortly, hopefully), I should be able to cut the remaining useless shit from my body and start reclaiming some of my muscle. Amazing how easy it is to lose that stuff, as opposed to the fat.

Every year we go on vacation. Every year it's hotter than Satan's but crack.

I went to Alaska, 85 F. I went to England, 90-95 F no ice in my drink and AC that got the room to 80-85 F. Italy one time, 95 F.

So I'm going to Florida next week.

At least here, all I do is go from house to car to work to car to house. All AC. Now I have to "tourist" in the heat again.

Thinking of a December trip next time.

In a related note Paris shut down today because of the heat. Pansies.

Warm FL up for me, I’ll be there the following week.

Heh, how bout coming here to Phoenix. We’re supposed to cool down to 105 this weekend.

It will be 90-100 with 100% hummidity. But evenings cool off.

Rip tide double red flag warnings with $500 fines for getting in the water, plus a shark attach a couple miles from our rental a few weeks ago.

I may spend some time sleeping where the fish can't walk.

Oh... you poor ignorant soul... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Just say you haven't lived where the devil's ass crack exists.. It sounds less uninformed...

You mean like on the Gulf Coast for 40 years? I know more about humidity than most inlanders could comprehend.

What was posted is a meteorological impossibility. Look it up. Be informed.

I'm about ready to lift my way to 265-300 lbs and see if my waist goes down. At least I'd have muscle to show for it.

I'm 58. Six foot and around 245.
I graduated High School at 185. Kept that weight within a couple pounds until 30, then joined the RR.
Two weeks later, I went to the Dr. I'd gained 18 pounds. It just kept rising.
At ~35, I decided to do something about it.
Joined the YMCA, started eating better, quit pop altogether. Excercised 4 nights a week. Got into good shape, lost a little weight but not a lot. Mostly did get into good shape, though.
Then, started traveling for work.
Ate lots of fast food and generally just garbage, didn't excercise much.
Literally, my typical lunch was a bag of beef jerky, doritos and a can of Mt Dew.
As you can imagine, my health went in the shitter.
Eight years later, I finally quit that bullshit for a job that had zero traveling. Started eating better and tried to get back into excercising.
I've tried several times since to "eat right and excercise" but each time, there doesnt seem to be much affect on weight or cardiovascular health.
I even gave up on pop and sugary drinks (again) only to GAIN 3 pounds!

The moral of this long winded story is a message to the younger guys- DO NOT take your health for granted! Eat right and EXCERCISE, even when you don't think it's helping! It is, you just cant see it!

The highest design wetbulb in the US is in the midwest not the coasts. Somewhere around Ilinois and Indiana.

The wet bulb temp is the key variable. Wrap a thermometer with water and swing it over your head. When it stops going down that's the wetbulb. The measuring device is called a sling psychrometer.

Highest design in the US is a 2% wetbulb of around 78 F. In other countries it can be higher.

That can occur at 78 F, 100 % humidity or a combination of higher dry bulbs and lower RHs.

In physical terms if it's 78F with 100% humidity it feels about the same as 100 F with 50% humidity sweating wise. Your ability to cool by evaporation of water on your skin. At 100 F everything is hotter to touch.

I used to design cooling towers for power plants. They cool by evaporation too. So the conditions they "sweat" to were important.

There you go, science. Still going to feel hot.

When I retired at 56 12 yrs ago I had 286lbs on my 6’ frame. I had developed Type II Diabetes, my heart’s ejection fraction was very low and my labs looked like shit. I had a serious case of Dick Do. I decided to lose the weight a little at a time the way I gained it. The first step after my decision was to cut ALL soda, cut my fast food intake to near zero, watch my carbs and do portion control. I’m very active and have no desire to go to the gym. I just did my 6 month physical last week and I’m down to 208lbs, my labs are very good, my Diabetes is under control and my heart’s ejection fraction is well in the normal range. My goal is to get down to the 190lbs range.
My main concern now is getting enough protein in my diet. One of the members here suggested Jocko protein powder and I drink a glass for breakfast every day. My main meal is lunch and dinner is usually light. Once my stomach shrunk really don’t have hunger issues.
My biggest issues are having to keep on replacing my belts to smaller sizes (it’s hard to find ones I like) and having to replace perfectly good clothes because they’re too big for me now.

portion control

Three controls for food intake; what, how much and how often. If you find the sweet spot for these, you're on a gravy run. Hmmm, gravy... :p

Once my stomach shrunk really don’t have hunger issues

I think this is the part that kills most people when trying to cut weight, that and the psychological aspect that goes with. Powering though the hunger phase to get to that point was the hardest part, for sure. Now it takes very little food to stave off hunger, and eating items with better energy conversion helps as well.
