Programming a TJ with an LS swap

Hello Everyone,
I'm new here so if this subject has been discussed please point me in the right direction. I have a 1997 TJ with an LS swap and 4l60E. I live in NY and I'm trying to get it to pass inspection so that I can register it. I have it hooked to the DMV computer and it reads the 99 Silverado that the engine came out of. How do I get it to read the TJ computer? Is there a reprogramming software and computer to purchase so that it'll read the Jeep? I have the complete wiring harness and computer from the Silverado in my Jeep, I still have the original computer to the TJ in it so I can still run my factory gauges. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks. Dezcars

If you have both ECMs, wouldn't you have 2 ODBII connectors? Where is the one that your using at the DMV?

I have the one OBDII connector for the LS under the hood and I have the original one to the Jeep in the factory location. I have to hook up to the LS engine because the Jeep computer doesn't know there's been an engine swap and doesn't know if the engine is running or not.

As far as I know, you cannot write a Jeep VIN onto the GM ECM. The OS system has to be the same and they are completely different.

Right. I’m looking for a way so they match. Either buying a system or computer or whatever I need so I can get the LS to register under the Jeep. I might be asking the wrong questions. I know there has to be other TJs that had an LS swap and I’m wondering how they did it with the computers. It passes emissions and everything, it just reads GM when it does the emissions test. I used to just do the State Inspection and it was fine, now the inspection has to match the registration.

LSXTuning said they can change the vin in the GM ECM to the Jeep Vin. They said they’ve done it for other customers so I’m going to try that. Instead of pairing the two computers they’ll just change the vin in one. I’ll keep you posted.

Excellent. Let us know how it goes. Also find out what tuner they are using.

I just have to give it a try. They said they can do it so we’ll see. My Jeep computer works along with the GM computer without any issues. I’ll keep everyone posted. I’m sending it to them tomorrow.

I think from the HPTuner point of view, if we were able to changer VINs or ECM OS systems, they would lose the ability to sell and lock credits to each ECM. It would be a free for all open source program. I know there are new open source programs available, and maybe other tuners like MegaSquirt can do it. Good luck!

I know I tried HPTuner but their software couldn't do what I need to do. You can change the vin but you couldn't add the Jeep vin. It wouldn't allow it. I have a friend with this program. I just sent out my PCM so they'll have it Wednesday. If everything goes as planned I'll have more information for everyone. If not than I'll be back to square 1.

UPDATE: They were able to change the VIN number in my GM ECM. When I hook my MODUS up to it, it'll still say Silverado in the details section of the ECM but my Jeep vin is now in the computer. Thankfully the inspection station just reads the vin, which finally matches my Jeep.

So the OS and serial is still GM, but VIN was changed to Mopar? Good deal.
