Protecting your PCM

The issue I’m having with a bad PCM now all started by me replacing my car battery. Ever since then my gages started to act funny and the car would stall. Now I ordered a new PCM to fix my issue but I am worried the next time I have to disconnect my battery that I’ll burn another PCM. Is there anything I should do differently next time before I service my vehicle which requires me to disconnect the JEEP battery? For example, would it be smart to disconnect the three PCM connectors before pulling the battery or was it just freaked bad luck of what happened to me?

I've removed and replaced PCMs with the battery connected and I've removed and replaced batteries without disconnecting the PCM. Never had any PCM problems. I wonder if you just have a connector problem.

Connector looked good. Wires and female pins fully extended. I even cleaned the pins on the connector with contact cleaner.

Might be a harness issue too. That seems more common than people realize.

Would anyone happen to have a quick reference on where I could buy a harness for my 06 rubicon 6 speed manual?

i've disconnected and swapped mines so many damn times it's not even funny and just like Jerry i've done it with battery disconnected and batter connected never any issues ruining a pcm, just had bad pcm that I was swapping out for a test one.

Leaving the battery connected will not damage the pcm. I have had several calls over time where the last thing the customer did was give someone a jump and the pcm took off to heaven. I have also had disconnected batteries activate the skim function prior to starting.

@Stefano I just checked my harnesses and at the moment I do not have an 06 manual rubicon. I will check with my pullers and get back to you.
