Questions on Rough Country x-series lift

Ya but I can find a ford 8.8 3.73 with a lsd in a pick and pull for around 200 dollars. I can get a axle truss kit for around 250 and do all the welding my self. The only thing I don’t know is should I use the factory carrier or put something else in. I know I need parking brake cables and something for the brake line too, but I’m more than capable of doing the work
At the end of the day, you haven't gained anything other than a fat heavy axle that still isn't the right width. The Dana 35 already fits your Jeep. The Super 35 makes it reliable enough to safely run a 35" tire. No truss needed. If you think you need a truss, then why are you wasting the effort on a rear axle that is too narrow and the front Dana 30.

The 8.8 probably made sense in the CJ/YJ leaf spring days when the conversion was much easier and cheaper. It doesn't make sense on the TJ, given the other options.

First I want to preface this post with the statement that I cannot stand people that get on forums and talk smack and carry on about how everything they have and do is bigger better and badder. I'm just a guy with a Jeep who's glad to have it.

The kit that I chose I chose it mainly because it uses stock Dodge 3/4 ton pickup truck bushings.

Stop and think about that in relation to the size of a TJ.

I don't know if it is because my Jeep is lower mileage, but I have a 4 inch Rough Country lift that was installed by a professional shop and I have Rancho Shocks and BFGoodrich ko2 tires....

This isn't me talking.... Everyone that drives the Jeep is absolutely amazed.

It doesn't squeak... it doesn't roll it doesn't do anything but drive straight and handle like a quality small truck.... It has real beadlock rims and you can drive down the interstate at 70 miles an hour and use two fingers.

I'm not pushing Rough Country and I know there are some very very nice lift kits on the market...my point is if you have a solid base vehicle , good , balanced tires with correct pressure, Rancho Shocks , and everything is done correctly , you are going to get pretty good results ...once you get past that, it's the tire type and size that have the most effect, if all else is static .

By the time you factor in welding costs, and brackets, the 8.8 isnt all that cheap. Throw a locker on top of that too. Plus having an offset pinion and large center diff and drawbacks to the 8.8. A super35 has more ground clearance, its oval shape has a very strong design, the new chromo shafts are strong as OE dana 44 shafts, plus the super35 kit includes an ARB locker. All those benefits for the 1k give or take. Id do that in a heartbeat if I still had a Dana 35
Exactly, I'd do that before going with an 8.8. People think 8.8 axles are great because they're cheap to find and plentiful but their glow has faded the last several years. Huge pumpkin, less ground clearance, the pinion is offset to the side more, and it takes a shitload of work and expertise to even get it mounted properly. I'd take a Super 35 any day over an 8.8.

I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler that I am looking to install a 4 inch lift on, and also install 33-12.5-15 tires.
I am trying to stay on a budget here which is why the 4 inch x-series lift from rough country is so appealing . I am not going to spend more for a Currie lift, it’s out of the question. The problems that I see with the RC lift though is
1. It does not come with bump stop extensions. Is this going to cause a issue with rubbing
2. It had a pitman arm drop and a track bar drop in the kit. I’m seeing that some people say this may cause bump steer and recommend going with a aftermarket track bar that uses the factory location. What track bar would I have to buy and will the factory steering linkage still work without the drop pitman arm.
I bought my TJ with the lift and I believe it’s the rough country x series. It’s at six inches and the control arms are fine. The shocks are junk and the PO uses the original bolts on the control arms. Other than that they’ve been fine. Everyone says rough country control arms are garbage but I haven’t found this to be the case with mine.
