I was thinking the same thing. I’d prefer the frame rail to be the same height all the way.

That was my rig (but not my video). Just to make a few important distinctions with what's said above:
1. This video is on an Unlimited, so the way we cut (as some may call the @jjvw way) lends itself to being flatter since we had more space to work the angles.
2. Had we decided we were only doing one fish plate, they would have been only on the inside of the frame so the outside was smooth and looked as if it hadn't been touched.

I have found that the absolute best answer is to live where shit don't rust.
In the rust belt a lot of us lately are using Steel-it to paint surfaces that will be hidden after welding. Then just sticking with a good yearly or spring/fall frame treatment of woolwax or fluid film.
You can also use a paint wand to get something like Eastwood inner frame paint up inside but many are now starting to turn away from that and just stick with a good lanolin coating.

In the long run that place doesn’t exist. It’s just a matter of Fe, moisture and O2. It may last long enough for some. I just figured bare steel should be coated.
I hear welding primer will permeate the weld then just coat the interior as normal.
Eastwood had an inside the frame nozzle that sprays out in a radial pattern with a small hose you shove in the frame.

bend out an old coat hanger and tape that 360* wand to it and you can reach a bit deeper without it winding up in the frame rail.
Blaine, when you do this cut, how much do you have the tub raised? It looks very nicely done.
If you know the frame is 4" tall, the rest is fairly easy. I don't know how much we raise it, we just lift it until we have room to work and block it there with a couple of chunks of 4 x 4 between the torque box and frame at the last body mount on the side of the frame.
The tank is out. We stand a chunk of 4 x up on a floor jack and lay another piece across the top of that to spread the load out and then jack it up just in front of the rear torque box.
