Can anyone verify the correct bolt size that is used to mount the rear bumper to the frame? I'm specifically asking about the two that fasten up through the bottom of the frame. I think that they are M12-1.75 (unsure of length), but my searches keep turning up a mix of metric and SAE results.

This is for a 2001, in case they changed the bolt size at some point.

They started out as 1/2 x 13 and your right they did change to metric, my best guess would be after 2002 when they made a number of changes.

Serbonze,
Did you figure out the rear bumper bolt size? I broke off mine. I have removed the welded in nuts. I am ready to replace the rear bumper and can't figure out what size bolts to get. Thanks

If I remember correctly they were 10.9 M12-1.75 x 50mm.

Has anyone confirmed that is the proper bolt size? I'm also looking for these two bolts after a new bumper install. Thanks!

2000 - Thanks Jerry!

The Mopar parts book says .437-14 which is a 7/16 14 pitch which is a course thread. Grade 5 or Grade 8 is what you want. This is the size of the bolt that goes in horizontally from the bumper into the frame from the rear side.

Thanks Jerry. I’m actually looking for the two (one on each side) that goes in vertically past the bumper mount and into the frame rail.

I see it in the 2000 parts list, but it doesn’t list a part number for it. I’ll try to post a pic from the parts list.

I believe it’s #5 on this diagram

I was able to find a M12x1.75x45mm at Morris, but it is backordered. Once it’s in I’ll report back whether it fits or not.

I can also confirm M12x1.75x45 will fit a 2005 TJR. Thanks for helping out this.

When I replaced my rear bumper it took me a better part of day and lots of promises to the hardware god's that I would continue to use Kroil if the bolts would come out without breaking. Lots of squeaking squealing and groaning ( the bolts I mean). Finally they came out. they were just slightly rusty. Cleans them up with a wire wheel and ran an M12x1.75 tap through the nuts applied some anit-seize and reinstalled them on the new bumper.

My 2001 was 7/16 x 14 x 1.
I went to advance auto parts and tried a multitude of bolts until I found what fit. Buy a tap to clean the threads and you’ll be good to go. Buy grade 8 bolts. Hope this helps.
