Got some JK front seats put in. Passenger side was pretty straight forward with mounting, basically bolted straight on with some new bolt holes and a bit of grinding. Had to relocate the tumble feature to the other side of the seat - in principle it works the same between the TJ and JK, except the TJ uses two cables, one for tumble and one to allow the seat to slide forward whereas the JK seat only had provisions for one cable. I chose "tumble" for now - I may try to add the slide forward unlock in the future, but for now I just slide the seat forward, and then tumble. Not used on a daily basis so probably won't look to mess with it unless it becomes annoying.
The driver side was a bit more involved because it can raise and lower so the mounts are different. I had to make some additional brackets to get it fully installed. Also - apparently the driver side JK seats don't tumble, or at least not in the same was as the TJ so I still need to figure that out. For now I just reach under the seat and rotate the bar that allows the rear to move up and forward. Not going to be a long term solution of course so some cable routing/figuring will be in my future. These pictures are of some of the areas cut away/modified. mostly the unused seatbelt attachment on the opposite side of the driver seat belt:
and the mounting surface show here, the trimmed area had to move to move seat enough to not interfere with the roll cage. I also had to do a bit of grinding on the left side lip of the silver piece to allow the seat to full lower. Unfortunately didn't get pictures of the brackets - but they aren't complex - just metal strips with holes to align with the extra holes on the JK seat.
Test fitting:
They fit surprisingly well - not sure if I love the light color with the dark interior, but it may grow on me. One nice thing about the seats is Bartact makes covers for them, and Katskin makes upholstery kits - so I may end up with one of those at some point. I'm tallish (6'2") and long in the torso, so I was a bit worried about seat height. In the lowest setting it's pretty close to the TJ seats, I'd say less than an inch taller based on where it hits on the center console. My head is still just below the bottom of the factory cross-bar. Comfort is subjective of course, I tend to like a stiffer seat, so my first impression of these is that they will be quite a bit better for me than what I had. Over the same stretch of road I drive everyday it felt smoother (might be wishful thinking, haha), and was definitely quieter (although that was probably mostly the Summit seat track repair kit).
The main reason I went with these seats is so they will match the rear JK seat I'm going to put in. I want headrests for some rear passenger safety - and want to retain the ability to fold/remove them easily. The Quadratec and Bestop options looked like they would still be way too short, and many of the other options I saw couldn't be folded, or removed easily. Even coming from a 2-door the rear sit is too wide between the wheel wells so some modification will definitely be needed. There's at least a couple people that have done it so I'm confident I'll figure it out. Probably just slow as hell about it, haha.
