What happened:
1/19/2024 - So it was a cold, windy 5 degree Friday night in Nashville, Tn towards the end of our week long blizzard. I had been driving on highways, interstates and back roads with no problem and wanted to buy a rug that happened to be in a particularly hilly neighborhood. But after a week of melting snow and hard freezes the roads had turned to solid ice. I didn't really notice on the way in as it was mostly downhill and no problem in 4 wheel drive but on the way out I lost forward momentum near the top of a few hundred foot hill. The jeep slowly started sliding backwards with all four wheels spinning. I managed to miss mailboxes, trees, electric poles and cars but ultimately didn't see the retaining wall separating the sliding jeep from a beautiful open field of snow. Thinking "no problem, ill just roll into this field and regain momentum after i slide to a stop" the rear passenger wheel went off the ledge and the jeep slowly rolled onto its side then slid back about a foot to its rear passenger corner where it hopefully still rests now. (I was surprised at how well the Rubicon rock rails actually did protect the passenger side body.) I am hoping the hardtop and front passenger fender, tub and hood aren't too bad but I am anxiously waiting out the ice so I can get some 2 wheel drive trucks and gear in to the Jeep.

Plan so far:
1/23/24 (if ice melts) - I'm planning on emptying jeep contents into my truck then taking off the full hard doors and if possible the hardtop (it may have too much weight on it). With the roll cage accessible I should have pretty good and safe leverage to slowly upright the rig. Thinking about lashing 6x6s beneath the tires and pulling the upright Jeep like a sled up and out over the uneven wall/ terrain?

//I cant just flop her down on the drivers side because that would put the transmission, transfer case and rear driveshaft right on the other side of the L shaped retaining wall without either of the drivers side tires back on the ground.

*I have found some really good roll over recovery videos online and will use some of those tips. (feel free to join in if you're in the Nashville area at noon tomorrow - pending ice melt- 1/23/24) (DM for coordinates)

- This is a great video -

TLDR - GOD smites ROTM - haha ... sigh - I flipped my Jeep Friday night on icy roads! Anxiously waiting for the ice to melt, researching recovery tips and tricks you guys may have picked up through first hand experiences! I hope you enjoy and thank you /stay safe out there!

*The bald eagle flying over the jeep pic was from earlier that same day...

glad you walked away from it without personal injury. I would think of a big air bladder or something on the driver side to allow a slow lowering motion. Maybe even another vehicle on the passenger side with a pulley tether set up to help lower the jeep onto all fours. but this is just looking from the pics and not sure if the house owner would want their yard driven on. taking to top off would be a good choice if you can do it.
GOOD LUCK!

Glad you’re ok. I’m local, but can’t get out of work. We are getting some good melt. Good luck with recovery.

David.
