Does anyone have any pictures of successful rack/basket on the hard top without the big frame that goes over the top/tub?

Well the hardtop is not really meant to support that much weight, so I guess can bolt a basket down on top of it to hold some light gear... Although it wouldn't be as useful as a proper roof rack that ties into the frame to support heavy static and kinetic weights.

I do. I have a pretty sweet setup too, and I was planning on starting a thread on the topic for reference because theres only a few TJ's it seems with custom mounted Hardtop roof racks.

Only thing is I don't have a basket, I have a hardshell roof box.

I also made a full roof rack basket combo that folds back. 1.25” 12ga tubing.

I’m theory it won’t be a whole lot of weight.

How much weight? Using the Method I did (link posted to the write up), I was able to sandwich a aluminum plate from the inside of the hardtop that allowed the weight to be better distributed, however even then, about 75 lbs was pushing it. I ended up making a frame tied in rack and it had 700 lbs loaded on top as a test and it didn’t bow at all. But if you have access to cargo rails off an XJ it’s worth it for a temporary solution
