Running hot

Hey guys , so I’m having an issue. Drove my Jeep this morning about 15 or so miles with no issue. Get in it about an hour later to drive it to work and the check gauges light comes on and I notice It’s running hot. It’s had a very small coolant leak for a while so I figured It may be a little low on coolant so I checked And not the case. Just replaced the thermostat and still having the issue. Noticed the heat doesn’t work either and when idling it doesn’t run hot. Just when driving and more so the faster I go. Any ideas on what the issue could be? Thanks in advance!

And it’s a 2000 model with the 6 cyl

Sometimes, when everything else is functioning properly, the return (lower) radiator hose can collapse if it is worn out and when in higher RPM’s causing an overheat condition. As long as the info given is correct, ie; thermostat is opening properly, radiator is not clogged, water pump working correctly, etc.

The system is never going to work with a coolant leak. It can't draw coolant back from the reservoir when it cools. Are you really sure you don't have air in the system?

It’s a small leak around the bottom of the radiator. When I say small I mean Small. It’s been that way since I got It and never had to add coolant to it. I don’t think I hve Air in the system. Just weird how it was fine and then pretty much bottoms out on the temp gauge once I hit About 50mph.

Is there a way to check if the hose is collapsing on it? Thanks guys

Got it, my old one seeped a bit too, no big deal but obviously but ideal.

With no heat, I would lean toward the water pump impeller slipping on the shaft or it's corroded to pieces.

Well it was the water pump. It had a crack in it. Thanks for the reply’s fellas! I replaced The water pump, radiator, and thermostat. Hopefully I wont Be having any more issues any time soon!
