Running issues after washing engine bay

Ok will follow advice an let it dry out then drive some more and hopefully that works. I unplugged the PCM to replace the blower and clean the one side of the evap. I have checked the wiring, did not see anything unusual. I sprayed the connectors with deoxit and let dry, still same results. I have the connectors disconnected to dry and doing a PCM reset. Will update if anything changes.

Twice on my 4.0 XJ I made the mistake of washing. Code was TPS and I replaced it both times for the cure. I left the old one buried in raw rice which has worked to dry other components that got wet. I've yet to try that one but carry as a spare.
I've since sealed the TPS with black gumpuckie (RTV) that I'll have to deal with if TPS needs replacement again. I also used lithium grease for the connection.
If and when I wash it again I will wrap the TPS with a baggie or such.

If you wash the engine and it doesn’t run good afterwards find the problem and fix it.
I’ve been pressure washing engines in every vehicle I’ve owned for the past 4 decades and will let you know the first time it causes me a problem.

Maybe try using a leaf blower or air compressor to get the moisture out? Not hot air, but still might help. I won't be offended if others think this is a stupid idea

Well been drying out for a few days. Removed pdc to check for frayed wiring or bad connections. Checked wiring loom from pdc to pcm, then from pcm to behind valve cover and rest of connectors in engine. Nothing found. Still the same issues. I will test sensors, ngk replacements on the way. I also have another PCM from another 98 TJ 5spd fed emissions model on the way to try Conversing with WranglerFix as well. Hopefully I can figure it out.

Any updates on this? I washed mine out over the weekend and immediately noticed a rough low stumbling idle when I fired up the Jeep. Thought I'd take it for a drive but it sputtered so bad in my neighborhood I was afraid to go much over 30 mph. Five mins in the CEL comes on - solid, then flashing, did the key trick to get the code (PO302 - No.2 Cylinder Misfire) Pulled back in the driveway and let it sit for a few days.

Cranked up last night and running the same rough, low idle. I thought why not check the fuel injectors. When I disconnected No.2 injector I noticed there was no real difference in the engine. I noticed that the connector and wires to the No.2 injector looked very frayed and I think some water must have got in there and possibly shorted out my injector? Hoping the whole dry out thing works for both of us!

I don’t think the water and cleaning cause a problem, not that you’re saying that, it it seems to expose problems.

Your case, the wires need an update no matter what it sounds like.

Well I guess mine finally dried out. I went over the wiring and pdc. I also had a loose connection at the starter relay in the pdc, that led to a no start condition. I have not any problems since.

Good to hear. Mines going on day five, but here in Alabama it has rained heavily everyday so that might not be helping things. Here’s what it currently sounds like (feels like an old diesel)

I have ordered a replacement fuel injector connector to replace the No.2 connector that is falling apart. Hope that fixes it.

Oil pressure has always been around that same mark even when the engine was running great.

My replacement fuel injector and connector will be in Friday (Amazon)

While cleaning out various connectors under the hood I discovered that both of these plugs are loose and one fell apart when I went to disconnect it — Can anyone tell me what these connectors are? I’ve read that the IAC could be a culprit with a misfire.

Pulling the coil pack, plugs, and wiring harness this weekend.

Any chance these got shorted out and would cause the PCM to think it is a Misfire? I'm going to clean them this week along with new plugs to see if I can chase down this electrical gremlin. I've also noticed the exhaust smells like unburned fuel — running rich I guess?

I guess anything is possible but I doubt it. I guess it's an issue specific to cylinder #2 like the fuel injector or wiring.
