Rusty's Offroad experience

Rusty’s? MetalCloak? We know to never buy either, but the latter does have good customer service.

Why send the product back if they are going to charge you extra and not refund your money? I can’t believe you did that. Just throw it away or sell it on Marketplace.

I'll try to sell the lowers that I was forced to keep,

I bought uppers and lowers. The uppers were returnable, and I sent them back. The lowers I'm stuck trying to sell.

So is that why you're adding the $140? In their policy, it states that the customer is responsible for return shipping and a restocking fee. I still think this is showing that they stood by their policy 100%. Whether you agree with the policy is irrelevant. All we can really ask is that a company stand by their published policies.

I'm not trying to be an ass with this, it's just like some others have said, when you join to bash a company and your story doesn't really add up or you're complaining about something stated up front, it doesn't really win anyone over.

100%

It does seem like you share a fair amount of blame, Travis05Rubi. Your clothing analogy doesn't really apply. Lift kits are not standardized like clothing sizes. From what I can tell, you have a Rubicon Express long arm 5.5" lift and you bought control arms for Rusty's 5.5" lift. As has been pointed out, each manufacturer's lift is unique. Assuming that Rusty's design uses the same arms as the old Rubicon Express was a huge mistake. You definitely should have called them to get dimensions first. Sorry your first post went so rough, but please stick around. This forum is a great place to ask a question like, "Will Rusty's control arms fit on a Rubicon Express lift kit?" and get an answer that will keep you from spending $490 on nothing - next time. (y)

They were close to where I lived so I drove down to shop. Must be online shop only cause there’s no showroom. I walked around their factory and nobody stopped and asked wtf are you doing here? Very strange.
They need your business badly and didn't want to scare you into any negative reviews on the internet. Made in the USA. ;)🇺🇸

The only Rusty's product I have is their radiator skid that I bought over 15 years ago, because they were the only one who made them at the time.

Yeah, I realized a few years ago that the radiator skid is a useless add-on.

I'm not so sure. I ran one back when I had the 4.0 and the stock radiator. Of course, you are never going to hit that plastic lower tank on a rock, but I always thought that where I wheel - in the woods with lots of sticks and other pointy things - there was a possibility that something could pierce the lower tank. Whether that is actually likely or not, I'm not sure. I run an aluminum tank now, so not worried about it as much.

Dang Rusty's is still in business? Back when I first started lifting XJs 12 years ago everyone in that circle was surprised they still stayed in business due to their attitude and the quality of the parts. That is the last place I would want to try to ask for any leniency on returns.

I too am quite surprised that Rusty's Off Road is still in business.
When Rusty's Off Road first started in the XJ community; his parts were fabricated in house and were cheaper than the known brands.
Many many years ago I talked with Rusty on the phone concerning and order of the ONLY item (steering box brace) I ever purchased from him.
I was one of the few people that purchased a part from him who received a decently fabricated part, but only used the part briefly.
So many early NAXJA members had problems with Rusty's products I advised NAXJA members to never buy a part from Rusty's that was built on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday and forget about Saturdays and Sundays. Wednesday is the only day that decent parts were fabricated, but Wednesday only comes once a month and you never know where that day will be.
