Should I re-gear to 4.10 even if I might go to 33s in the future?

I've seen a lot of forums but none that really answer my question.

I have a 2000 Jeep wrangler sahara automatic transmission, dana 30/35 with 3.07 gears and am currently sitting on 31" tires.

Should I regear to 4.10 for my 31s even with the futuristic possibility that I might go up to 33s? I don't see myself going higher than 33 ever with this rig so would the 4.10 suffice? Thank you.

Yes. Or live with the 3.07 until you are on 33's.

Unless I use first into second on the auto shifter i can't get really any power as is now. I bought the jeep this way so I was thinking 4.10s will give me some power back (not that 3.07 really had much) and then if I ever go to 33s if will still be sufficient.

No. Regear for your final tire size. If you’re on 31’s for awhile you’ll just be overgeared for awhile, which is better than being undergeared. This way only regear once.

x2 on regearing for final tire size. If you gear for 31’s now, you will be back in the same boat you are currently in when you switch to 33’s.

Likely you could find a set of takeoff axles 30/35 already geared in 4.10 for 1/4 the cost of a re-gear.

But if you want to keep your current axles I would do as @JMT suggested and over gear to your desired tire size for now.

If I’m not mistaken Jerry has owned one of those transmissions, and has good vehicle sense, as so many guys here do.

I have a YJ with the 32RH and 33's, it accelerates fine and only likes 70+ mph for short burst, but will run all day long at 65

Go on craigslist or on the forums here and find yourself a set of dana 30/35 axels with 4.10 gearing trust me you wont regret the upgrade. I was on 33" with 3.07 and it was honestly IMHO very very slow and killed my MPG, if there is anything to take from my post its to just cough up the money for the axels its well worth it and then what you decide to do with your old axels is up to you, you can keep them and reuild it into a super dana 35 or junk it or even sell it. You honestly cant go wrong either way. Now if you do decide to keep the 3.07 and run 33" you do risk blowing your rear diff and everything will be much more difficult due to the fact that it may blow on a highway and you may need a tow then a rental; its a huge headache its what happened to me. Word of advice dont be like me and run 33" with 3.07 LMFAO.

also a note here I paid around $8-900 for a set of used axels with 4.10 thats just a reference of what you're going to spend if you spend less then good on ya mate.

There is less chance of axle/axle shaft damage with 3.07 than with 4.10 since the engine develops way more torque with 4.10 than it can with 3.07. Not that that's a reason to stay with 3.07.

I have 33’s and 4:10’s with the 3 speed auto you won’t go wrong with that set up
