Should you get a heavy duty fan clutch?

I took a video today to help @machoheadgames figure out if his is working correctly. Figured I'd post here so people can compare.

cold start, revving to about 2300rpm until the fan clutch disengaged after approx 15 seconds.

Based on how far I'd get from my house before the Hayden stopped roaring, I'd guess this test would have taken a good two minutes.

Are you running the 22159 or 22160?

Just want to throw my .02¢ in here (a year later). I finally bit the bullet and refreshed my cooling system and put the USMW fan clutch in. There was nothing wrong with the original but for the sake of longevity wanted to shelve it as a spare. I don’t see any difference in volume or performance between the Mopar and the USMW, so as others have found this is much better option than the Hayden. It’s been 100+ here and with the AC going I haven’t had any overheating.

I had mentioned perviously I had a failed USMW fan clutch (out of balance fan ruined it) I replaced with a Toyota OEM on my truck and found no discernible difference between how the OEM performed with the USMW. This is what originally turned me on to eventually using it for my Jeep.

My conclusion is that this is a great OEM equivalent.

Waking up this thread, what is the best fan clutch for towing?

Hayden 2771
Hayden 2791
Hayden 2794

I want to free up horsepower, stay cool while crawling and stop and go southwest desert traffic.

I wouldn’t expect the 2771 or 2791 (which I ran for a while) to free up horsepower.

I can’t speak to the 2794.

I'm running a 2771. For my way of driving, the local climate, and my priorities, it is "probably" the best choice for me. Some will hate it because they consider it too loud - it doesn't spin down until around 3200 RPM. I like the extra air, and noticed the difference on the temp gauge over stock - albeit a worn out stock so the comparison isn't "real". I don't care about noise myself. What? Huh? What did you say? ;) :D

The 4.0 runs hot,you need the clutch that moves the most air, unfortunately you won’t be freeing up any horsepower.

The Hayden 2794 with motor craft Ford fan is one of the recommended options for cooling performance. Any experience or feedback on the Hayden 2794 with motor craft ford fan?

I have the 2771 and it seems to work well. It is a little loud.

I'm going to give the 2771 a try this year, for the extra airflow . I welcome the increased airflow . The noise doesn't bother me . I'm used to the fan noise on some of the Fire Apparatus , sounds like a jet throttling up when the fan kicks in .

I swapped it for a mopar. I have been trouble free with no belt noise for over a year now. I couldn’t get it stop squealing at hard acceleration. No noise with the mopar with the same belt.

I had the same issue but on an XJ. When I was young and dumb I saw on other forums people recommended the heavy duty clutch so I tried it. The fan wouldn't unlock no matter what RPM, it sounded like a jet, and any higher than 3000 RPM the belt slipped and squealed it sounded like a supercharger, even after tightening the belt. I bought a Mopar clutch for that Jeep and never had any issues.

From reading this thread it seems that the 2771 stays locked longer . Not looking for higher cfm , just longer lock time . If it's noisy , that should mean it is pulling air . I'm currently running a USMC which is doing fine as far as engine cooling .

I think you have it backwards. I'm pretty sure the 2791 moves more air than the 2771.
