Show me your interior light upgrades!

One of the things that annoys me about the TJ/LJ is a lack of adequate interior lighting. The factory overhead and footwell lights are pathetic. Even adding LED bulbs does almost nothing to improve cabin visibility. To be clear, we're not talking about dash or switch lights. That said, show me what you've done to brighten up the interior.

I converted my interior lighting over to LED's and I concur that they leave a bit to be desired. I have seen where additional additional lights have been added to roll bar.

I've played around with these, which will fit on the late model pods.

They provide 240 lumens of light. FWIW the stock incandescent bulbs are 85, while the pathetic LED bulbs are 50 - 60 lumens. The overall measurements are below. They're available in either cool or warm white and fit, although a little small, in the stock opening. The only thing I didn't like was the nickel finish.

Stock Pod = 3.6" overall and 2.62" hole opening
Replacement lights = 3.5" overall and requires a 2.5" to 2.75" hole opening

As I noted, these were a little smaller than I'd like, with parts of the existing drilled holes showing in the overhead pod, when the lights were installed. To fix this issue I used some heavy black material I had and cut out two circles, which added about 1/4" to the outside of the new lights.

Once I had them cut out, I installed both in the pod housing to test the fit. I also attached the lights to a 12v power supply and let them burn for 15 minutes. There was no noticeable heat, and all was good!

Although these are brighter than the stock lights, I'm still in search of additional options and lighting!

Now you got me thinking. I removed my speaker pods and installed an earlier style sound bar with the single overhead lamp.
I have plenty of space in the sound bar to add lighting. Maybe something like this.

I just used these in my pods. They claim to be 400 lumens. I don't really know, but they were a dramatic improvement over the incandescent bulbs.

I did this. It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, but it sure lights the cabin up. I have one on the side rear roll bar also.

Both of those pictures are with the same light. It rotates in its housing so you spin it front to back. In the top right corner of the 2nd picture you can see the one mounted to the rear/side roll bar. It‘s not on in either of these pictures though.

In all seriousness though, I bought a cheap dope light from O’Reily’s to put on the roll bar of my YJ. Ran the wiring through the roll bar padding and to the door switch. Granted it was a YJ so it wasn’t the most aesthetically pleasing, but it worked.

I replaced the incandescent bulbs (194?) in the footwell and soundbar dome light with the Zevo 921 LED bulbs. They are plenty bright, no heat issues.

Upgrading that stupid shift lever light with a good LED is such a great thing to do. The factory crap is terrible especially if your Jeep gets dirty.

I don't know if this counts as back up lights or interior lights but I've got high power rear facing lights that are kinda interior-ish.

Older thread but could you post a pic of your dome light? Wanna put an LED in my dome and have easy access to the Zevo’s but some guys have said they’re really not much brighter than stock. Thanks.
