It looks like you didn’t preload it during installation… should not be a gap like that along the tub.

It's a magnified view. A sheet of paper won't go in there.

Guess I should have kept my mouth shut. It looks fine to me, having nothing to compare to in person.
Yes we had the jeep off the floor and backers clamped. Maybe I buffed the edge too much.
For perspective, I've fucked shit up way worse than this so won't be stressing over it. Let the next dipshit sweat it, if he even notices.

I wouldn't bother. Better to make sure any bare metal (on the tub and slider) is coated prior to final installation. One can always remove the slider and backer periodically to inspect and/or clean if deemed necessary.

I didn't use anything when I installed mine but they were used and had been powder coated. I planned on removing them to paint in the future but now that they are installed I like the look and may not paint them

I use painters tape on the top edge of the rocker guards. I do this, along with Blaine's recommendation to lightly file the top inner edge, primarily because there's a slight bend towards the top of the rocker guards. The tape helps so that top inner edge doesn't dig into the Jeep paint when you're preloading and whacking them with a dead blow hammer.

During the preload process I put painters tape on the tub to mark the top edge of the backer. This became the top edge of the flex seal.

This is what it looks like right now. The black shows dust on the little shelf formed by the backer thickness. One day I'll probably pull my fender flares off, tape it all off and spray the backers to match body color.
