Southeast states ice storm

We didn't get any snow , just freezing rain and sleet . Enjoyed going for a ride , but after a couple of days it's almost gone . Which is fine with me , as I am welcoming the 60 degree temperatures back next week . :)

not in the southeast, but here in Pennsylvania we got flogged pretty good, though we dodged a bullet somewhat in that the predictions ranged as high as 17+ inches with a nice crispy coating of 3/10ths of an inch of ice to cap it all off.

In the end we got 7 inches and the freezing rain never materialized thankfully, that would've turned the snow into concrete. What we got in its place was a few hours of sleet after the snow ended which made the snow on the ground heavier, but, that crap just bounces off of trees & power lines so we had nothing come down and no power losses in the area. PENNDOT had the roads clear and drivable by Monday, still took the day off to clear my driveway & pull some off my porch roof to reduce weight. That was a barrel of monkeys.

I forget which region of PA you're in, but up in NEPA, we got ~17" total (hard to measure since it was blowing around so much the entire time), but as of today (Friday), the kids are on their 3rd day of 2-hour delays (due to cold and wind). There are still many people in town that have not dug out yet. The snow was light and fluffy, plus we didn't get any rain or ice to make a cap, but for those that live in town, the cars and driveways have been constantly battered by snow plows and with zero warming, it's a lot of work to clear them out...

Mailbox #2 (since moving back) took a beating... it's frozen solid into the ground, so it will be a few weeks before I can replace it, so for now I just bent it back into shape (mostly) so the door can close!

One side of the driveway has 8", the other side has >24"... areas in the yard away from trees but not "wide open" show about 17-18", so that's what I'm guessing is actually what fell.

This photo was taken minutes apart from the photo above, just about 15' over... at one point, the snow looked like the shifting sands of the Sahara!

we got 6" of snow, no ice, but my kid shoveled the driveway and made a 4' pile right behind the Jeep, and then it softened and refroze into a solid cone. I could potentially back over it but I would hit it while halfway through my garage door and I don't want to screw up my Jeep AND my house playing stupid games.

We got somewhere between 7-12 inches. I think some local news stations are reporting 10-11" total. It was still snowing for a few more hours when I took this picture. This is the first real, measurable snow we've had since '18 or '19.

Just on the outskirts of Nashville but I'm on the same electrical utility as Nashville. We were lucky and only lost power for 8 hours. The whole time I was struggling to start my generator (I know I should have tested it before). In-laws live 4 houses down and were in the Florida Keys so I borrowed their generator.

Brother in law wasn't as lucky, I think they were out for 4-5 days. NES is estimating full power to all customers on February 8th. The 210,000 customers quoted before was only for NES portion, it doesn't include all the utilities in the surrounding areas. 23 deaths in TN from this storm.

I saw plenty of videos of people on the outskirts of the storm's path complaining about missing in the fun. I knew what we had in store and would have easily traded spots with them.

As much ice as yall got I think I would have borrowed their Florida Keys instead of the generator. With temps staying below freezing, Key Largo sounds really nice. :sneaky:

We got lucky here. The ice storm forecasted last weekend skirted to our north so we only got a layer of sleet and snow, and this snow was actually nice.
