At some point in the near future I am likely to look to install a modest 2" / 2.5" lift on my TJ. I have read a lot on here but a few of questions regarding springs bug me, so I was hoping for some input.
There are a variery of springs for a 2" lift available from different manufacturers. There is a reasonable spread on price, using all Quadratec prices so it is 'apples with apples' these seem to range from about $65 to around $100 a spring (though typically sold in pairs). I have read somewhere on here that springs are there to raise the vehicle into the desired position and it is shock absorbers that do all(or almost all) of the work when it comes to ride. However, some of these springs seem to advertise different 'features'.
From a couple of write-ups on here my understanding is that OME springs come in handed pairs, with one spring specifically designated for driver's side and the other for passenger side on both fronts and rears. I believe this is to even out ride height as th load on the two front and two rear corners is not the same. Is my understanding correct and if so, are OME the only brand to do this?
Skyjacker springs are described as dual rate, with more coil density at the top of the spring than the bottom. Skyjacker claim a number for benefits, such as "...improving axle droop and traction off-road... more consistent handling under heavy suspension articulation. In other peoples' experience are these benefits real or just marketing hype?
OME springs can be purchased in different load ratings, depending on how many non-stock items are added to the vehicle. Is the benefit of this simply to maintain more of the lift height when heavier or additional items are fitted, or are there other benefits? On a diffferent seller's website I have seen suggested loads for the different OME springs, but how does one calcualte this, is it as simple as for example, replacement front bumper and winch added increasing weight at front by a total of 90lb, therefore 45lb per front spring?
I know there is a well loved approach originally used by @CodaMan which uses ProComp springs and these are very reasonably priced. But I am just trying to understand what, if any, benefits there are to any of the more expensive springs so I can make an informed choice.
