Steering input shaft pic request

I’m currently replacing my steering gear box and the steering shaft appears way too shallow on the input shaft. I’ve tried ten ways to Sunday to get it on deeper but it won’t budge. Would someone please send me a pic of their input shaft for me to compare?

Bolt should seat in the groove, you'll have to completely remove the bolt to get it to that point

Maybe a dumb question, but did you remove the bolt on the steering shaft collar? That bolt locks in place with the groove on the steering box shaft. If you look at the collar, the bolt would be in the right location, once you slide it on. The shaft won't go on with that bolt the way it is.

That’s probably my problem. I have the bolt loosened but I failed to realize it went into the groove. I’ll remove it and try again.

Remove the bolt, slide the shaft on so the bolt threads go through the collar and groove. Then it will be secure.

Awesome, that was my issue. Now the next issue is my pitman. I have it torqued to 150 and it still has this much exposed. My pitman was snug against my factory gear box so this can’t be correct.

I thought it was supposed to be torqued to 185...

185 and that's an acceptable amount of splines showing as long as it's torqued to spec
