Stretch vs TJ-6

You can do that easily by virtue of moving the axle to center under the springs. Then you are only limited by the pitman swinging by the trackbar.

8 + the current 92-93 is 101. That's good for 35's most places, not 37's in our world.

Sell it and buy a TJ Unlimited.
Not the answer I wanted but non the less also the answer from the master himself. Thank you for chiming in, it really means alot. Also very interested in seeing your tj6 when it does come together so I'll have to follow you to keep learning.

The problem is the fuel tank. I am just not a fan of in cab tanks, at all and I'm fixing to build one that is identical to the one above at 104.

TJ-6 only makes sense if you aren't seriously wheeling on 35's or on 35's where there are more steep hill climbs than not. It makes sense on 40's, not on 37's. TJ's are tough to get out to 104 which is OUR minimum for 37's.

37's on a TJ Unlimited at 104 just make sense and they work. There are a myriad of shenanigans you can play with for fuel tanks, raising, high clearance and what not that make a whole bunch of stuff easier that either a stretch on a TJ or a TJ-6. BTW- it was sorta glossed over above without really driving the point home but just the body work if you want it to look nice is more work than building a TJ Unlimited on Coil overs.

I've been struggling to understand the TJ6. This really helps explain the differences in simple terms!

Always knew I should have gotten an lj from the start but currently I still cant really afford one. I just worry I'll go tj6, justify going 40s and tons then just going down the rabbit hole of building it bigger than I think I'd actually use. Not to mention money. This definitely gives me a good idea of what to do. It's just to see if I'll be happy on 35s and a stretch or if I'll get bored with them. I love building almost as much as I love wheeling so it's really just how much money I'll make and how much I actually wheel to justify the jump. @mrblaine Do you still get 6 in of uptravel on the stretched TJ without chopping the back section of the frame? I do like your mentality of how to build things and will be keeping that idea no matter the path I do go.

You do have the conundrum. The problem is if you aren't willing to commit about 50 grand to it, you won't do them very well. If you can commit that much, you can afford a TJ Unlimited.

That makes alot more sense. This jeep is my first car and was a pos when I got it. So I am more sentimental to it than I'd like to admit but I realize my limitations. I'd rather built it right on 35's than be just another dude stuffing big tires under a rig when it Isnt built for it or just never finishing it because I never did end up making enough to pay for it. Stretching a tj just over the 100 in wheelbase with the mid arm coilovers and 35s seem small in today's idea of " 40s are the 35s " but I know I'll enjoy it. With that idea what axles would you recomend with that setup given I'd still like to go v8 to some extent ? I'd love to keep the jeep light since it's only on 35s and make it so it can go kinda fast on some dirt trails and keep up with some smaller rzrs. I'd assume jk width axles to make room for coilovers but I hear the back and forth of 44s being good but lack in the balljoin size. I really appreciate this advice and knocking some sense into me with my dreams vs reality.
