Supporting engine when pulling AX-15 transmission

Hey everyone - I have deen doing a "rebuild" to my drivetrain (new timing components, cooling system, oil pump, RMS) and have decided to go ahead and pull the tranny now since I am about 50% there already. Vehicle is a 99 Jeep 4.0 with AX-15.

Do I need to support the engine towards the rear of the block when I pull the tranny or will the two front motor mounts hold it?

If so, I will need to build some makeshift brace since the oil pan is currently off. I also do not have anything other than the timing componenets and new HB on the front of the motor so I am not concerned with the fan hitting the shroud if it tilts when I pull the tranny

Yes. Support the engine. A block of wood on a bottle jack is fine. No on the crank. Make it so it rests on the block.

this can assist getting them back together. If the motor tottles (can pivot up’n down a bit) you can fool around
with that angle, making it easier to match whatever angle U move the transmis in to mate. Of corse BOTH
able to do this is ideal but may B easier as just described. The output shaft coming in @ proper angle
(rather than pulling in hard on BH bolts, u can break off a corner) to easily mesh, that confident ‘clunk’ as meshed,
one of the joys of wrenchin... same w/the FP & tq converter. Nice clunk w/proof from some hand turning... Ahhh

cj-8 was my fav (esp WC or alaska postal) but the coach built (AIL) is a close 3rd. This

(no, nota truck, nota car... a mishmash / multipurpose. Means it aint good at anything BUT...
can do several, ok.

But ya gotta admit (if doin a number of motor &/or transmis installs) that ‘clunk' feels so good
some where in the lower pelvis when heard. No struggle, just that ‘ slide/clunk”, no?

Off topic...there was a guy on another forumi am on who lived in MA and also was at MIT...went by the name trailblazer. This you?

He would write every paragraph in small letter and use zero punctuation until the very end and would then insert a . Longest run on sentences ever. But he was fun and a good sport.
