I'd rather buy a used Rubicon 4:1 tcase than spend $1300 on Tera's 4:1 conversion kit. I haven't met anyone who was completely happy with their Tera 4:1. It may take a while to find a used Rubicon tcase but they're out there and worth the $$$.
Next time we go on a day run out to JV, you're invited. You'll get to see first hand a whole bunch of "that shouldn't work that well according to the internet but it does" stuff on his rig.
We have the Tera 4-1 in front of his Super 35 and the logic and reasons are very easy.
No new drive shafts which do add 5-600 to the expensive 241 swap.
No hassle with a raised belly skid or need to dimple the tub.
Swap can be done in about 4-5 hours start to finish.
Belly skid can easily be raised higher.
The 1300 you spend on a 241 quickly turns into +500 for drive shaft work, +100 ish for shifter work, +75ish for the 4x indicator, + 150ish for the digital correction needed in most, +100ish for a custom trans mount and or cross member. Or, you're getting pretty close to another grand on top of the purchase price and a fair bit of labor and messing around to get it all fitted up and working and when you're done, all you have is 4-1, no twin stick option, and a really big t-case.
If I'm going to spend that much and do almost the same amount of work, I'm going to get an Atlas with multiple gearing options. The main difference in price is just the case price because everything else is a wash.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of anything Tera does but some things just make too much sense not to do them which is why one is in Matt's rig.
