The grass is greener, get the F out of your home state thread

The only thing Commiefornia is a model for is failure
Maybe a model on how to create homeless. There are more publicly funded programs to 'help' people get out of being homeless then there are to help prevent people from becoming homeless. And here we are....streets lined with bums that don't want help. Reminds me of the time I followed a beggar at a Home Depot back in the early 2000s from his spot to his really nice Lexus parked nearby. I suspected this guy for a while because his dog was pretty clean and I thought I saw him in a computer store once; just not looking like a bum.

I've been homeless twice in my life when I was younger. I crawled my way out of it by my own merits both times. No white privilage, no public programs, no family money or support, and no begging/handouts. Every circumstance is different but you have to really want to improve your situation.

So what did you do when you found his Lexus?

From Southern Illinois, pretty much get the worst parts about living in Illinois, without any of the very few goods. Me and my girlfriend are interested in moving West here in the 3-5 years but not sure which state would suit us. Thinking Utah, Arizona, or Colorado. We don't care much about how people we are gonna be around feel about politics, we come from the redest county in Illinois (84%). What are some pros and cons to each of the states I mentioned?

Two of those states are being over run by commiefornians (driving up real estate prices and turning them blue) so enter at your own risk

I do appreciate my guns, but coming from Illinois I am used to these laws lol. Pretty libertarian myself, was hoping that was not the case. Don't mind liberals myself but leftists take it a little too far for me. Anywhere other than where we are currently located would be an improvement though on politics. Illinois has been run into the ground and these states might be coming to similar circumstances but at least they are all pretty lol.

I definitely do not mind conservatives either, but where I am from the KKK is gaining power again and all people have to do around here is talk bad on one another. So I just want to live somewhere where politics an is not extreme in either direction.

We are hoping to go on vacation over that way here in the next 6 months. Hope I can flat tow the jeep with us. I am starting a build thread soon. Older guy had it before me, put some weird rims and headlight covers on it.

What's "older" to you? 😆

Good luck. The way things are going, Governer Gestapo might just prevent you from leaving your State. Lest you be one less tax payer.....

I once looked at Springfield, OR....until I saw there were more hippies there then on campus. 😁

I used to work down in Lane county.

Springtucky is fun. More meth than anything. They built their own jail.

And watch the movie “spun”. It was filmed in springtucky and accurate.

It’s a different feel from the hippies on UofO.

I've been all over Oregon South of Portland. Visited some 20 times testing to lateral to a PD that would take me back in the early 2000s. Even after acing the written and physicals I often was greeted with "oh, you're from California" during the oral boards. I once drove 1000 miles to test for Florence and they asked me how serious I was about the job. They were very excited when I told them I drove 1000 miles for that one test and interview. I was golden until they asked me where I was from and looked at my paperwork. Yeah.....

Tested or applied with various Counties, South Bend, Florence, Eugene, Medford, Eagle Point, Grants Pass DPS, just to name a few.

Retrospect being what it is....I'm glad things turned out the way they did.

My mother lived in the outskirts of Grants Pass for a time so sometimes I had a home base when visiting. Once or twice....

Once met an Officer from Central Point who lateraled from an agency local to where I lived. (Neighboring city) We knew a lot of the same people Since I proctored at their academy for a few years. Too bad they weren't hiring at the time. Central Point was one of my top five agencies I wanted into.

On a side note, Ashland was ridiculous. Pay was crap and they expected degrees from recruits.

By the time I was done with Oregon I had received a conditional offer with Jefferson and Douglas Counties. Shortly after I turned them down the recession hit and they laid a bunch of deputies off.

Come on down, lot of great small communities around us. I am looking at land to buy at Stockton lake. About an hour away from Springfield. Property is still pretty cheap, lake is not developed and will not be due to management by the Corp of Engineers.
