Tire Carrier With Cargo Platform

Have yall seen this Cargo Carrier for over the spare tire made by adventure labs?

What do yall think about using this over a 35" spare and an exogate style carrier? Do you think this will hold up?

I am stuck with my path forward here as I work to select a rear bumper, tire carrier, cargo carrier setup. I know there are tons of negatives to the bumper-mounted spare tire carriers and I understand why.
I love the idea of a tailgate-mounted spare tire carrier but am unsure that even the HD tailgate carrier mounts could withstand a cargo mount like this with gear on top.

Either way, I am wanting to have the option of a Cargo carrier over the spare tire

Anyone with a set up similar please give your feedback with your setup and how the tire carrier holds up to the weight over the tire.

I am also considering the dirtworx rear bumper with tire carrier and basket built-in but looking for feedback from people who have this and how it holds up over time to the stress of an oversized tire and occasional cargo in basket use.

I don't like placing anything with any weight up that high, it unnecessarily raises the center-of-gravity. If I can't carry it inside I don't carry it.

As much as some here hate them look at Ruty's Off-Road for their tailgate mounted tire carrier.
It's supposed to be rated for a 40" tire.

Hanson's if you decide to go with a swingout bumper mounted carrier makes some nice racks.

It will not hold up with just an Exogate type carrier.

IMO, the better place to put a shelf is above the cargo area behind the headrests. Assuming the Jeep is a two seater.

I currently have a platform back there I built with tie-downs, totes under it, and my dog in front just behind the front seats. Looking for alternate space for when the rear seat is installed. As of now, I have TONS of space

Never heard of hanson, I like the extra tie-in over the taillight. That is awesome

I'd challenge if you really need to carry more stuff. While I don't know your situation, there's an interesting trend in "overlanding" that I find excessive. That said, if I had to carry more stuff I'd go as low and tight as possible, eliminating any type of these over tire carriers.

It's always a balance and it would suck to need something you didn't bring. However sometimes a little ingenuity to make a bush fix is all you need to get out in order to fix it right.

no kidding.... Something I have convinced myself I have to bring on the trails with me are RC Crawlers which is what I currently have in the totes under the platform

He was a local guy back in the early 90's near Fort Ord, CA and built me a rear bumper with winch mount for my Nissan pickup.
My cousin ran his tire carrier on 3 different Jeeps so I've been around them for a while.

And while everyone will tell you not to carry stuff up high you also have to use common sense. You put the heavy stuff in the tub of the Jeep and then things like sleeping bags and mats go up on the rack. I carry extra stuff too and if you have kids/need for a backseat you're VERY limited on what you can carry.

And if you're going on a 5-7 day camping trip and packing in ONLY your Jeep those tire racks can come in very handy.

I think if you keep the load lite you maybe OK, after all if you look at the MORryde website they sell a lot of options like hi-lift jack carriers, gas can holders. I would make sure to use the

Tailgate Reinforcement Kit including hinges​

Just put sleeping bags, and other lite stuff

I have been thinking about doing something similar off my tire carrier. With two kiddos and some tools and gear there is no space left. I was thinking about using it to hold a small cooler and some bag chairs. Simple things we use on the trail, not overlanding things like awnings, showers and refrigerators.

Maybe streamline your packing strategy instead of trying to create more space?

With that said… I agree with the RC crawlers, they are a hell of a lot of fun!
