Hello fellow Jeep enthusiasts. This is my first post though I come here often to read.
I have a question that I'd like to answer before I put out the money for some new tires.
I installed 1.25" wheel adapter spacers on my 2004 TJ which allowed me to change my stock 15" rims to 17" rims from my old Jeep Commander.
The TJ tire size spec calls for a 30" diameter X 9.5" wide on 15" rims.
Can I install 255/65 R17 AT tires? Basically, the size will still be a 30" diameter but with a 10" width on my 17" rims.
My thinking is that since I added the 1.25" spacers, it should more than make up for the extra 1/2" tire width, or is my thinking flawed?

Thanks in advance.

What are the specs of the Commander wheels, width and backspace? On the back of the wheel they should say 17x7.5 or whatever the width is and then have another number like 0, or -12, or +17 or whatever they are. That will be the offset which can be used with the width to determine your backspace. That will determine how much effective backspace you have with the spacers.

A quick google search shows the Commander had 17 x 7.5 wheels with 6.25" backspacing. Your stock 15" wheel may be 5.5" backspacing with 8" width. So figure out the math, the wheel and tire will be sitting out further, probably 1/2". Should work OK.

Thanks for you input. That's something I didn't consider.
