TJ Fest 2021 - Moab (April 24 – May 1, 2021)

I remember someone mentioning doing one big group ride with everybody on an easy scenic trail. This was probably before 100+ people were registered and dozens of pages back, but... are we still doing that? I like the idea of a big group gathering where we can meet other forum members, drool over each other's jeeps, talk about jeep stuff, etc.

I looked for overnight permits back in december and they were gone already except for the campsites right next to the entrance. Have to really be on the day they release

It looks like day use is still available. I’m thinking E to W, camp outside of the road area. Then W-E the next day

There’s some pretty nice views from the potash side, but if I could only do one I’d do the west side of the loop. It’s got a lot more to offer in terms of cool terrain. On the east side the drive down the switchbacks to potash is pretty incredible.

We would have to be able to accommodate however many people actually show up and I don't think trying to run 100-ish Jeeps on any trail would be feasible...or, for that matter, any fun.
It would probably be a better plan to set an evening meeting point that could accommodate the 100 people signed up or the 16 people that actually show 😁. It'd be best to have it near Moab proper since I'm thinking that would be a fairly central point to where everyone is staying. The only time I've been, our group just hung out at the cabins that most of us were staying in but it was a group of about 20 or so total. We never had an all-riders meet but it would have been cool.
Soooo, you who have been before and had some kind of meetup, does any spot come to mind?

Imagine if we all sported WrangerTJForum stickers on our Jeeps even! ( @Chris )... cough cough...

I could claim the East star being Mountain City-ish......

Anyone interested in doing White Rim over 2 days?
I see the SW VA, a long time ago I lived in Wise, VA (actually got married there). Beautiful area but not much there, I used to take my mountain bike down to Norton and ride from the top of High Knob down on a hiking trail, then make the long climb back out to repeat it. People around there thought I was crazy. There was also an old strip mine turned into a 9 hole golf course in Jenkins, KY that we would hit every once in a while, nothing like driving off a cliff and running to the edge to see if you cleared the slope.

I would normally be up for an overnight trip, but got to make sure I get back to the hotel for my son to do his school work every day, benefit of virtual school this year is that he can do school from anywhere (including Moab!!).

I will repost our schedule as things develop. Meeting times for the first trail of the day will be added as well. Again, we like to start early and move quickly. Think leaving the trail head at 8-9am.

Since this isn't an official event, other "unofficial" trail leaders need to do something similar to avoid chaos and make this a good time for all. Especially for those who are new to the area.

Also, everyone needs to be aware that trails in the Sand Flats Recreational Area require a permit. This covers Fins and Things, Hells Revenge & Porcupine Rim.

Passes can be purchased at the entrance gate with cash.

What is the user fee at the Sand Flats Recreation Area?

Sand Flats offers a few different types of day use passes. Enter in a private vehicle and you have the option of purchasing a 1 day pass for $5 or a 7 day pass for $10. Enter by bicycle, motorcycle or via shuttle and the cost is $2 per day or $5 for 7 days. Sand Flats also charges a vehicle trailer fee of $5

How much does it cost to camp?

Camping at Sand Flats costs $15 per night, per car for up to 5 people. Additional persons cost $2 each per night. A $5 vehicle trailer fee per night also applies

Nice plan; go team CO! Sounds like we meet at fins trailhead Saturday morning?
