Hello, i just bought a 2003 jeep tj from a private seller. The car drives great but I took it on the highway for the first time and when I got to the highway speed the car began to shake. The accelerator did not affect the shaking it was consistent which makes me think it may be the tires. Does anyone have some advice for me to maybe avoid a trip to the mechanic?

First steps would be to get the tires rotated and balanced along with getting the front end alignment checked.
The balancing of the tires, inspection and alignment of the front end components will assist you in determining if its only the tire balance or a worn front end component.

Is the Jeep stock? If so, the "front end alignment" means check the toe-in.
I'd check tires first, followed by performing a dry steering test with a helper. (look up that test on forum)
Follow this guide, get your tires balanced...check the date codes on the tires...

I imagine the shaking starts somewhere just BELOW 60 mph, but does it end somewhere ABOVE 60 mph? If so,
you may just need the tires balanced by someone that can do a better job than "roughly within spec". FYI, The bigger the tires, the more that matters.
Of course some details may add to what's needed.
Is the steering wheel shaking?
If so, is it a violent shake?
Do you have to almost stop driving for the shaking to end?
That would more likely be Death Wobble, which the first step would be getting your tires balanced perfectly regardless of size.
