I was watching a vid where a dood swapped a manual transmission out for a 32R auto. One thing I learned was that on that TJ the manual transmission was a little longer than the auto. If the transfer case is the same that makes me think the rear driveshaft on automatics is longer giving a slightly better angle.
That would seem to at least partially explain why some people have vibration issues and others don't with the same amount of lift.

Am I on the right track here or not? My Jeep is 2003 w/a 42R auto so I don't know if mine really is shorter? Do any of you? I might go ahead and do the 4" lift and just a transfer case drop for now and run that for a short while till i can afford to get a SLE and new shaft.

Your 42RLE is significantly longer than a 32RH and that you have the short wheelbase TJ means you really should install a SYE kit and DC driveshaft with a 4" lift. I would not drop the tcase, a 4" lift would mean a deeper than normal drop.
