TJ will not start

I thought my battery was out, it’s 3 years old Jeep TJ would not start. I had a new battery, and I installed it, but she still will not start. When you turn the key nothing, turn signals 4 way works. I checked all the circuit breakers, all are good, my starter is 3 years old, pep boys, I know, but when she broke the starter, pep boys was just down the street. I like NAPA better. You guys got any Ideas, straight 6 2006 65th Anna model 100330.00 miles

So the starter does not try to engage? No starter sounds when you turn the key to start?

That makes me think either bad starter or, more likely, a bad ignition switch actuator pin. When they break that exact problem happens. It happens enough that I bought one to carry as a spare.... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004BYX8W8/?tag=wranglerorg-20

If you know your way around a volt meter, you can check for voltage at the starter solenoid when the key is in the start position. The heavier wire from the battery at the starter will always have 12 volts on it. The smaller wire is supposed to have 12 volts on it when the key is in the Start position. If it has 12 volts on it then, that indicates a bad starter. If there's no 12 volts on it when the key is in the Start position, that is a good indication the ignition switch actuator pin is bad.

Jerry most likely accurate, if you don’t have a volt meter you can jump across the the starter and see if it engages, old school, his way is Better and safer, but in a pinch to test the starter

So I assume your talking about the ignition switch? No voltage to the starter, you spoke about a starter Solenoid, I cant find one.Is it one of those relays in the long box right side next to the air cleaner? I have a 55 F 100 and it has a starter solenoid, replaced that puppy last year.

Okay I don’t have anybody to help, so I can rig up a P lead to my volt meter, and see about that voltage to the starter. Thanks guys I like my Boo Boo. Just don’t know that much about her!

The solenoid comes on the starter on these vehicles. Use a volt meter or test light on the smaller gauge wire going to the solenoid on the starter while you have a helper “start” the jeep.

The starter solenoid is part of the starter motor, it's that smaller assembly mounted externally on the main starter motor itself.

The starter is fine, the solinoid is on the starter it’s also working, has a spade connector on the solenoid I don’t like that, kinda tired today, I might attack that ignition switch, maybe tomorrow. All parts houses are closed on Sunday. I like using NAPA parts.

So when you turn your key is it a crank no start or a no crank no start? your original post said you turned the key and nothing.
