It wouldn't have mattered. Under that pit of muddy water was 2 very nicely groomed ruts that my wheels fit just right in. I had all 4 spinning in 4hi and wasn't going anywhere.

Oh, man, my CJ-5 and I used to hang out there all the time when I was stationed at NAS Jax in the late 80's. Loved that beach. Great place to take the family.

This is one beautiful place for wheeling... Doran Canyon near Calico Ghost Town California. This is right off the I-15 just outside of Barstow California on the way to Las Vegas.

This is one more gorgeous SOCAL wheeling spot known as Devil's Canyon which is not too far from the Mexican Border.
