I just bought a 2005 TJ X. Stock (it is beautiful by the way; 88,000 miles and excellent condition - got new tires and mechanic asked if it had ever been out of a garage). 4x4 light won't come on, but 4x4 is working. I've seen multiple videos and threads about replacing the transfer case switch. But am seeing both a transfer case switch mode (part J8134473) and a transfer case switch (part 5083138AA). It is a model 231. Which do I need?

Based on the description, I would guess the mode switch is for the Rubicon 241 case since it has a 4 position mode switch and yours is a simple on off switch.
I would check online to see if a local parts store has one in stock. Remove yours and take it with you to verify it is correct one.
I describe mine as an ugly shit box. That way people are surprised when they see it.

I see what I'd call a a second rate hard top, some all season radial tires and some faded fender flares. I'll give you what you paid for it, up to maybe $2500, once I receive it.
