I have a 2004 LJ with a 42LRE at 106k miles. I threw a p0760 code for shift solenoid C about 30 miles ago. As soon as I got home I scanned the code and scheduled an appointment at a transmission shop. At the time I had no issues with shifting or any other issues. After getting the Jeep back from the shop today I was told that I needed a new transmission since the Jeep was in limp mode and that was going to cost me $4300. The Jeep was not in limp mode prior to me dropping it off at the shop, however upon picking it up it will not leave second gear. I am not going to pretend like I know much about transmissions but This doesn’t feel right to me since it went from no issues to needing a new transmission so quickly. I’ve been debating replacing the solenoid block and seeing if they fixes the issue, buying a transmission off marketplace or putting the LJ in the garage until I get a chance to possibly LS3 swap it or manual swap it. All 4 of these would be new territory for me so any advice would be much appreciated. I’m not opposed to having the shop replace the transmission for me but it just feels like a punch in the gut since I just got it back to a point where I am ready to take it out on trails again
