Underhood insulation removal?

My 05 Unlimited does not have under hood insulation, but I bought it used. I don't see it listed in the equipment list for my VIN, unless its part of Premium Appearance Package, Mutually Exclusive Package or Convenience Group. Carpeting and floor mats are listed

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I just did a search to see what others have done with their underhood insulation. My '04 LJ has it, but at 290K miles, I'm hesitant to pull it out. Maybe this insulation is the secret to +300K miles?!!?

Has anyone noticed an increase in road noise after yanking this insulation?

My '98 didn't have any underhood insulation, but the paint in the center of the hood is heat cracking terribly. Might have it repainted and then fabricate an aluminum heat shield.

Mine didn't have it either, just as well I would of had to tear it out to install my PS Hood Louvers

My 05 LJ does have insulation, but after 180k miles, the hood paint is spidered terribly. So insulation would not have saved you.

Had hood louvers for years parked outside in rain and snow, no issues, no noticable change in temp either.

My 05 had it but one or two trips off-road and it was nasty with dirt and mud. Pulled it, and there is a small noticeable increase in engine noise but not bad. Maybe I should have kept it to hide the noises!

Mine would not be a good example to compare to, as mine spends most of it's life parked in the garage and usually only comes out when the weather is nice, but not always.

Planning to do the famous GM underhood reel light mod, so was wondering if it was worthwhile to work around the insulation. My insulation isn't pretty, but still holding up. Might as well keep it until it becomes a nuisance.

i installed the poison Spyder louvers after my black paint began fading, which I’m convinced was from the borla headers heat. Ran it for 7 years with out issue. I also had an after market intake. Not by choice, the OE was stolen one night.

Same here... I didn't even know they came with it until I read this thread.

I'm going to have to say same here, I didn't know they had them till I read this thread. LOL I wouldn't think they would do to when one goes through deep water and mud, fast, causing this yuckiness to get all over one's beautifully just cleaned motor and under hood area. LOL I would think the insulation would fall apart.
