Underhood insulation removal?

Who removed the insulation from their hood? Mine is in bad condition and I'm thinking about tossing it out.

Threw mine out and sprayed it with Lizard Skin sound deadener.

Does that Lizard Skin do pretty good as a sound deadener?

Trying to do some research on it and it seems that only the unlimited TJs (LJ) came with it from the factory

Makes sense because I've never seen it on a TJ at all!

I kind of wish mine had it and have thought about it in the past, and this thread made me re think it. Then I thought about it possibly holding moisture, salt, dirt, and makes me wonder if it would cause premature hood rusting

Hmm, and I wonder if it would even make any difference in regard to engine noise.

Has anyone looked at the factory part diagrams to see if it actually exists as an OE part?

yeah I just looked for a 2005 Unlimited and it is there. Not available to purchase that I have found yet, but definitely depicted.

But then again it does show it on the 98 as well. According to some of the sites it looks like it was an export part. Maybe it was a requirement on some of the exports???

That's really odd. Maybe it was some sort of factory accessory as well. I guess it doesn't matter since it's not in production and therefore your only option would be a used one (probably in crappy condition) or maybe new old stock.

$163 for 12 sq. ft. of thin insulation? LOL, I think I'll go price some aluminized roofing insulation at Home Depot & Lowes.

None for me. I like how the hood heats up in a few minutes, and the snow just slides off in one chunk.

Seems like this is a gray area with Wranglers. Mine has the factory under hood insulation, but I'll probably be removing it since it's in really bad shape.

I wonder if this was an option or what.
