What did you do to / in your garage / shop today?

This was actually yesterday, but had to deal with this in the ol' lady's JKU. This is in the new spare we just bought last summer, which I just had to put on the passenger side rear 6 weeks ago after she picked up a self tapper. If I didn't know better, I'd almost believe someone intentionally stuck this in there...

This woman picks up more junk in her tires than anything I've ever seen. We now need to just buy 5 new tires, because the other 4 have 3+ plugs and/or patches at this point. The tires are only 2 yrs old .

I truly don't know how she does it. Her commute is literally 1.3 miles one-way. At this point, I'm legitimately considering just buying a tire changer and balancer. It would have paid for itself just in the last 3 years. Out of the 18 tires in our fleet (no spare for either of my trucks), I need to replace 14 of them soon

I know the feeling. My wife works from home and puts on 5,000 miles a year, maybe. I put on 30k+ a year. I can wear out a set of tires without needing a patch. She can’t make it 2 months without needing a patch. She gets more flats in a year than I have in my lifetime and I have 20 times the amount of miles under my belt, and that is an ultra conservative multiplier.

Almost the exact same situation here. I used to run 100k+ miles a year. (Over the last 10 years, it's been a small fraction of that.) However, I think I've only had to plug/patch a tire of my own maybe 8 times in my life. She racks that up herself in a matter of months.

Being that our new zero turn is back at the dealer getting fixed, I thought I'd get my Dads old Johnny out to try avoiding needing a baler.
I got it running just fine but couldnt get it to shift. It's a regular 5 speed gear shift model.
First thought was dropping the gear oil and changing it out, but found no drain plug. Investigated online and found out it is filled with grease, not oil.
Disconnected the linkage hoping that was bound up or something, nope. Worked good.
Dropped the transaxle and pulled it apart...
Houston, we have a problem.

Thinking like a typical Jeeper (which is always a problem) that as long as I'm in there I may as well get an air locker, chrome shafts and a regear...
Not sure what ratio to go with, though.

Yeah, no doubt.
I got it mostly cleaned up. Gonna wire brush what I can and see what happens.
It actually isnt much rust. It's mud.
The mower was in my shop 4 years ago this past Monday when we had a bad flood.
We had ~3' of water throughout most of the property, including the shop.
After the flood, we got the engines taken care of on both this one and our bigger hydrostatic mower but didnt do anything with the transaxles.
The other mower has never shown any issues but this ones been getting hard to shift the last few times we used it.
Hopefully, it'll be better now.
The hydrostat mower died a month ago so we bought a new zero turn. After 8.8 hours a part on the control arm broke and the dealer is struggling getting the part.
And they dont have a loaner.
So, here I am trying to resurrect this one.

The silver lining is that once its done, I can give it to my son knowing its a good unit.

I'll betcha if you soak all of it in ATF it'll clean up pretty fast.

I used diesel. It worked ok.
Got the transaxle back together, gonna let the rtv dry til morning to put it in.
Switched gears and pulled the right rear drum off the TJ.
Was hoping to just replace a leaking wheel cylinder but the pads are shot so here we go....

No, especially with all the older vehicles I have. Seems like Im constantly working on them.
My wife doesn't like that I have so many, says I should sell some of them.
I'm like, then what will I drive when they're broke?
I don't mind working on stuff, but I have to admit I'd rather be out shooting, camping, etc...

I have the same issues but I’m slowly selling off some things. I’m down to 6 vehicles and 5 trailers.
I took my Daughter’s car to the tire shop I get my most of my tires from. The counter guy asked me if I’d been there before and I said Oh Yes. He puts my number in and gets this look on his face because he had several pages of my buying history. I’ve been there 3 times this year alone. Funny thing is that I’ve been going here for decades and there’s always a different guy behind the counter.
The main reason I go here besides the fair prices is that my Wife or Daughter can go there with a flat and they fix it for no cost quickly and never try to upsell them on something.

It’s counterintuitive actually - the time I should be training typically is replaced by me fixing crap. And when I really need to be fixing crap, I wind up climbing because I’m in over my head.

Wife went out to her car to go to church this AM, and finds this:

One part of the bearing puller had rolled behind her car! In any event, I think this old shelving unit has had it. Got it free from the curb just down the street about 4 years ago so it doesn't owe me anything.

The black cases next to the Mercedes wheel were there already, everything else dumped out on top!

Replaced the controller on my new to me Makita top handle saw. So much for a FB marketplace bargain... but the problem really was rain...this saw cannot get wet under any circumstances. You could see the moisture under the switch.
