What did you do to your TJ today?

Status Report

Painted dash and center console and reinstalled. Better than I expected.

ran out of paint, super cold hit and problems with well... so finally getting back to it. Painting door panels and visors next.

Paint appears to adhere well but the sides of center console are being marked up by seat belt buckles...

Installed touch screen radio with backup camera. Radio sucks but generally runs android auto ok. Backup camera great.

I had the same issues with the seatbelt rubbing on my center console ammo box..I went down to my local arts and craft store and picked up some sticky backed felt... cut and wrapped it around the female end of the seat belt and booom...no more scratches.

Installed double DIN head unit today and new speakers, sub woofer i'll get done in a few weeks.
Also had an XRS370C UHF installed

Not much cargo capacity in these rigs, so I bought this roof rack on that jungle website. Surprised at how well it is made.

However I don’t understand the reasoning behind having the cross bars mounted to the top of the side rails. Leaving nothing preventing anything from sliding off (obviously items would be secured/tied on).

So I drilled holes at the bottom of the side rails and lowered the cross bars. Should be better.

Came with 4 LED lights. Not sure if I’m gonna use them or not. I actually have 2 7” LEDs for the front bumper but not sure if they will be used either. Not sold on the looks of them on an older rig.

Replaced the custom cluster’s Weatherpack connectors with deutsch connectors.

Installed a powered subwoofer, 125w rms per channel 4-channel amp, and ran new speaker wiring through the dash.

When installing new sport bar speakers, I found one of the enclosures warped where the face of the speaker mounts…was able to fix it up by applying a heat gun and reshaping it. Cleaned it all up afterwards.

that will sound great, nice job - you can fit bigger speakers in the soundbar pods if you want next time or if you blow those out with your new amp

Thanks man. It sounds pretty good, but I'll need to dial in the tuning a bit more. I installed 6.5" Polks in the TJ about 5 years ago since its pods were already drilled for 6.5". I wanted to try this 5.25" setup for the LJ to see if I can tell a difference. So far they sound as good or better, but that's likely due to this amp maxing out at 125w RMS per channel vs the Picasso maxing out around 60w RMS per channel (@4 ohms).

The JVC head unit works much better after doing a factory reset, it has six 4V pre-amp outputs, and the color scheme was adjusted to match up decently well with the Autometer gauges….so I decided to return the Sony XAV-AX6000 I purchased since the screen doesn't have as much value to me as it does in the TJ (daily driver).

Looks really good. I dont have the patience or skills for this so I had someone else do the work.

Went 5.25"s all around as well and over the old factory speakers it's an insane step up. Good move on the sub though as now I notice a distinct lack of base because everything else is so clear.

Oh yea, a sub was definitely necessary in both rigs to balance things out.

I really like the kicker 6.75” subwoofer (wired to 2 ohms) in the TJ’s dynamatted stock enclosure, but I don’t have that ability in this rig.

Do you have a stock subwoofer enclosure?

I don't, mine isn't installed yet but it'll be done in a week or 2. We are building an enclosure to go under the passenger seat with a 10" Alpine from memory.

Thought I was going to finish up the rock lite wiring. That's what I get for thinking. Broke a drill bit drilling a hole. Big deal, huh? I've had that happen any number of times, everybody has. This one just about did me in. I couldn't get the broken stub out regardless of what I tried. I eventually drilled another hole right next to the first one. I figured the damn stub would come out then. Nope, still there. I've never had this much pushback on a chickenshit pseudo-problem as I did on this. Thank Goddess the hole in question wasn't anything precision, just for a tye-wrap. The damn stub is still in the original hole! Turned a 5 minute job into a 3 hour thrash. Sigh...
