Today was the first opportunity I’ve had to do some wrenching on the TJ. I started with the throttle body and cleaned it based on the write-up on this forum. I then rotated the tires, giving me an opportunity to check the front and rear brakes. Finally, the check engine light came on earlier this week, code P0306. I had planned to change the spark plugs anyway and the misfire on cylinder six gave me reason to. Below are a few photos; I took Jerry’s recommendations that I found in another thread and purchased the autolite plugs.

The paper I used to wipe down the inside of the throttle body. It was covered in deposits.

Plugs, old and new.

And the number six plug which was exceptionally fouled.

I could not believe the difference when I took it for a drive after the throttle body cleaning and new spark plugs. It was so much peppier and drove so much better. Looking forward to doing some other things to get it in top shape. Next on the list is a new oil pan as it is bubbled up and pretty rusty.

@Leinhit, in your 1st pic on post #6343. Is that the Elusive Son of Bigfoot in the background?
Just a fyi, poly body mounts have a tendency to squeak like a mofo. Some late night pics. Wrenched all day. Everything under the tub is connected except the 28" of exhaust I need from the collector to the muffler. Picking that up tomorrow.
The donor tub is about ready. Only thing left to remove is the back cage. Gonna try and put it on Tuesday.
These plugs will work for both the 2.5L and 4.0 do you know

Started turning those gray and faded fender flares into something a bit more presentable.
Just got this 2004 wrangler last week.
Enjoying the crap out of it.
As said earlier, the XP985 is find for any model year TJ 2.5 or 4.0 engine. The confusion is from the 2000-2006 being fussier and requiring certain technology plugs to run well. The earlier 1997-99 are decidedly not fussy and can run a much wider assortment of plugs including those recommended for 2000 and newer 2.5/4.0 engines.I’m sorry, but I don’t know. @Jerry Bransford recommended them for the 2000 and newer 4.0, he may be able to chime in. They are Autolite XP985.
