What is causing this super loud noise coming from my hood?

This started happening 2-3 months ago and is extremely inconsistent. Took me firing up the Jeep about 20-30 times to capture this video and noise:

It went away by itself, but is extremely loud and inconsistent. Sometimes this noise will start happening and I'll tap on the brakes or turn the steering wheel and it'll go away. Other times it'll go on and it seems like nothing will stop it, need to turn off/on the Jeep and just hope it doesn't sound.

Other than that, driving well. Check engine light on with throttle position sensor code, but going to get that looked at soon.

Well, you need to open the hood and locate the source of the noise.

But with an 05, my bet is on the OPDA. If so, you need to swap it out ASAP before bad things happen.

Belt or pulley maybe? Probably will need to pop the hood while it's happening and narrow down where it's actually coming from

It doesn’t really sound like the belt idler or tensioner (to me at any rate) so I am guessing it is the OPDA. If it has been two or three months I would be worried about the condition of the cam.

OPDA was replaced with a Crown version at around 60k mark. It's now at 110k.

Over the years I've lost a bit of ability to hear high pitched sounds and I wonder about not hearing the OPDA go bad.

Is that seriously the volume of a bad OPDA? If so I'll worry no more.
