Comparing your Jeep to mine, Squilt, I'll believe your numbers.

Yours, with skinny 30" tires, probably at stock height, with 3.73 gears, and probably has the OEM speedo gear, probably reasonably accurate. Taking it easy, drafting semis, on fairly flat highways, 22 MPG sounds reasonable to me, especially compared to mine.

I can get 18 MPG on hilly terrain, limiting to 60 MPH, no semi drafting, on 33" tires (taller and wider), with the brick of a body up in the air at 2" lift plus 1.25" body lift, LJ (heavier), hardtop (heavier), 4.56 gears, GPS-calibrated speedo, at 5K to 6K elevation (15% - 18% reduction in power).

I find it believable given your speeds. I have the identical Jeep, same gearing, MT, only difference is hard top. I recently went to stock wheels and 30" tires like yours, my mileage picked up from 15's to 16's but I am not driving it with MPG in mind, I drive 70-75 on the freeway and 45-55 in town to keep up with traffic. Also our city is screwed up, traffic is horrible and the lights are such that you are almost always stopping every mile. I also accelerate hard to get up to speed quicker, and this time of the year use AC all the time. Are you using your AC?

I can see where careful and slow driving with this configuration could get some decent numbers. When I had stock tires on my Superduty 1 ton crew cab 4x4 diesel I could get 20 MPG going 60 on the freeway. With bigger tires and 75-80 MPH that drops to around 15.

Of course with any vehicle you can't go with a one time result, you need a history of averages. Even a 1/2 gallon difference in filling the tank from one time to the next will skew your results, when an average over many fillups will be accurate.

AC hasn't worked since I got it. Not sure where the leak is. It was almost 90 so the windows were all the way down. Wind noise is a lot better behind trucks.

I agree, this is the only time I've had numbers this good. I've had plenty of fillups measuring <16mpg. But I'm pretty confident in the numbers of this trip. I filled up at the exact same pump. Only difference being time of day. I do think temperature difference would have been in my favor. But we're talking <1% difference in gasoline volume.
 
I get measly gets a whopping 11-13 mpg with my lj
31s,3.73s Cammed,tuned,ported head/intake thin headgasket for higher comp. etc. Etc. And i drive it like a race car everywhere as to why it gets that milage

Normally though it gets 17-18 mpg if I drive it "normally" funny enough mpgs went up after i did the engine work😁

Edit- Mainly highways miles cruising at 75-90 ish Mph!

I plan to get some 7.5r16 pizza cutters for efficiencies sake, but I won't really be saving money until I've worn through my current tires. Though with how little I drive, that might be a while.

You know, when I upgraded to a hard top I didn't lose a bit of fuel economy. 15.5 mpg before and 15.5 afterwards. I think the improved aerodynamics cancel out the loss from weight.
 
I average 16.2mpg. 31" all terain tires set at 32psi. Automatic tranny always in overdrive even around town. 3.73 gears.
 
Maybe my lift cut the mileage down on my old Jeep. It had 225s. :unsure:

I don't know why some people are giving you such a hard time. I think your numbers are totally believable.

That said, getting a TJ for a hypermiling commuter makes just a little more sense than rock crawling my chevy volt. But your numbers are believable.
