I'm planning to get back into it being home in CO after a couple years away, sadly I have no hunting buddies around. If anyone is interested in taking on a hunting buddy for 2019 or building a new group anywhere in CO - please ping me.

My last hunting adventure was a few years back for deer (succeeded), but I am geared up for fairly big game if necessary.

You have some good hunting country there in Colorado.

I saw an 11 pt Friday evening as I drove away. I got some time to evaluate him. Younger deer. Went out on the land Saturday morning. Stalked one buck I thought was him. Got within 100 yds and it was an older 9 pt. Bigger bodied deer. Had my crosshairs on him but let him go. Sometimes I just enjoy the hunt

Orygun, the wet side...
Daughter was super thrilled. One shot from her .270 at 75 yards in the perfect place and down it went. We got it out of the woods whole (gutted and bled out only) and back to the house in good order. Backstrap and scrambled eggs for breakfast the next day. Good season this year. Her description of the event is priceless.

Great memories! And makes for great hunting stories around the camp fire for later hunts.

I've had a great season so far, 2 bucks and a doe. 1 Illinois buck and doe, 1 TN buck.

Congratulations! Nice Whitetail! Whitetail are on me and my wife's wish list. We have alot of Blacktail here and have gone out of state (Idaho and Montana) and gotten Mule deer, but just haven't found a good place yet to go hunt Whitetail.

It cost me about $500 to hunt Illinois as an out of state hunter. Hunted 2 different weekends and saw 1 other hunter and about 60 deer. This was the southernmost point of Illinois, not sure if it is different in other areas, but most in state hunters have their own land and the out of state people are paying for leased land. The pressure on public land seems to be lower than expected.
I believe Kentucky has reasonable non-resident fees and there are some darn good deer there.
Both are quite a haul for your though, just food for thought. I'd like to try for a black tail deer, I hear they are a tricky animal to get within bow range. But, if I'm traveling west, I'm stopping in Colorado for elk.

A Blacktail is a very smart and tricky deer to hunt, but during bow season they are easier to hunt and spot, as they are in the velvet and tend to stay out in the more open areas more as not to hit their antlers on brush and tree limbs.
I don't blame you for wanting to stop off in Colorado.

I unfortunately grew up poor so we poached several deer a year from the time I was about 7-8 until I left for the military when I was 17. I think I only shot 5 or 6 legal deer between rifle season and bow season in 6 years of being old enough to hunt. Big does were what we were after, they were good eating. I have not hunted much since I was about 20 except for a goat hunt and a sheep hunt in Alaska when I was stationed up there. I just dont have much interest anymore.

You weren’t the only one. Growing up in a very small community in Arkansas we lived the same way. I left as soon as I graduated and spent 10 years in the Navy. I was stationed n Bremerton, Washington where I was lucky enough to still be able to hunt. Now I’m lucky enough to be able to hunt with y 3 boys. The pictures I posted aboard of my youngest son.
