I’m here because -

I love Jeeps , have since I saw one as a child. I was hooked . My lord , big tires and the top comes off! Sign me up.

I bought a TJ and didn’t know squat . A lot has changed since 1987.

I like to do therapeutic wrenchin’.

I like to understand my equipment . I truly do appreciate and respect some of the guys on here that help us to do that .

I like to learn about new products , ideas or ways to care for and use my TJ.

It’s fun to try to help others with problems ...the payback is when they figure it out , we all learn. The mutual knowledge base can’t be underestimated . If I know what I know , plus what you know , and also find out what I know that isn’t so...I’m getting better.

I love to cut up (I know , you are shocked) . If I ever offend anyone , and I do try not to , just please remember my real goal is hoping I might make someone smile occasionally .

I’m on here because I run a 10 person remodeling company and sometimes , just a “like “ by someone is the high point of my morning
amid the stress and hustle. I have been really blessed at what I do , but it can drive you nuts .

I like to meet people , and this is close enough sometimes..and members I’ve met in person have been great .


I like to read something that reinforces a purchase decision or direction I’m going with my TJ ...or prevents me from making a bad move.

This is my daily escape ...it beats mindlessly watching tv, chugging booze or some other activity that brings you down . I enjoy this.

And mainly I’m here , because I send my 50 dollar membership fee to Chris every month , he said that I had to do that if I wanted to post stuff. Sounded fair to me.

Long story short, I inherited my Ford Ranger from my grandfather when I was 14yrs old. I joined two Ranger forums at the time, without disclosing my age, and tried to blend in the best I could and not be that “dumb kid”. Those 2 forums helped me in more ways over the years than anybody else ever could and started my obsession with modifying vehicles. And now almost 12yrs later I’ve made all kinds of friendships/connections across the country because of these people.

I enjoy these forums, I enjoy helping people(where I can) and understanding when to admit I don’t know something so I can learn something new. Forums have taught me the correct way of doing things and have helped hold me accountable for doing a better job on my projects throughout the years. I also don’t have many “real” car friends who enjoy spending days out in the garage or care to check out my latest project and the forums have always kinda filled that void haha

Last and MOST important reason though... go join a Ford Ranger or Jeep TJ Facebook group and check out the plethora of just flat out false information that’s out there. I can’t count how many dead-end motor swap threads and “what’s the biggest tire I can fit without any lift” threads get posted DAILY or see how many people make suggestions/give ideas without having a single understanding of what they’re discussing. It will definitely give you a new appreciation for the people on this site.

I'm here because I like the people and the knowledge base that this forum provides. I've met a few members on the forum and I'm glad to call each one of them a friend. I also enjoy interacting with people that share a common passion. In my experience Jeep people, in general, seem to be genuine down to earth people and who are always willing to lend a hand or help you through an issue. Most of all I love that this forum provides a way to connect with others to meet up to run trails. The only thing I don't like about this place is my wallet gets smaller and my want list gets larger way more often than when I wasn't a member.

This place feels like a bunch of like-minded TJ enthusiasts with focus. Love the TJ (LJ, in my case) and really appreciate the knowledge and experience others have with the model.

I've had Jeeps for ages. Started with a brand new '96 XJ Classic. Loved it. Wife bought a '97 TJ to replace the Suzuki JX we had. The TJ was a blast. Especially in summer. The XJ was our 'luxury car'. Bought the LJR with 32k miles on it in '09. Things are needing maintenance and I was considering replacement with a Commander (!). I test drove a pristine '10 example with a hemi. Very, very nice ride! Especially if you live in the suburbs and commute 50 minutes to work. On pavement. From the suburbs.

After that, I realized a new-found affection for the Moose. Long-neglected, I need to fix stuff to get it back to 'zero'. And after that, the 'tasteful resto-mod' will happen. No cutting or removing that can't be reversed. If some day someone wants to 'restore' the Moose to stock, they can.

This place is great for specific TJ knowledge. Give yourselves a pat on the back!

@Andy G well shit! I saw the title and had a paragraph in my mind, but you hit all the strong points.

I'm not a wealthy man, but this community has given so much and I try to give back any way I can especially to soothe some of the new guys' pannic over harmless observations of these vehicles, of which the the newest models are approaching 15 years old.

I'm the guy who would rather pass a kidney stone than let someone I barely know take a wrench to my pride and joy. I have owned more sophisticated and expensive machines, but the simplicity of a vehicle made before all the power this and thats and nanny state computer crap just makes me smile. She gives me trouble every now and then, but I don't have to be an engineer to figure it out. I just log on here and find all the info I need.

Thanks to many of you, I'm doing everything the right way this time around. I am finally beginning to share as I learn more, and participate in the forum more frequently to pay it forward.

Great people, technical info, help on my LJR, a feeling of community, the enjoyment of people sharing my interest in jeeps, the money I save having help resolving mechanical issues, knowing I have company in the problems associated with the tj. HOWEVER this comment is a bit moot given the ones preceding it have said it all. What a fantastic place for a tj guy to spend some time and a special thanks to Chris for starting it.

I'm here for the knowledge, the how-to's, to find new cool pieces of gear and hear peoples likes and dislikes. Hell before coming here I was definitely a Rough Country or Skyjacker lift guy, not as a fan but just because I didn't know any better. I can 100% say I wouldn't have the motivation, or the knowledge, to push forward with mine if it wasn't for this forum.
My only complaint is a lot of folks here seem to need their rides to be 100% and seem to a little higher pedestal than anyone who's Jeep doesn't meet their standards for condition and parts choices. Not everyone can get their hands on a rust free Jeep and then afford to buy the best of the best for everything. Some of us just love driving our Jeeps, and we love the hobby as much as anyone else, and we work with what we've got to keep that hobby going. Even if that means doing the projects that most people wouldn't. I just think that concept gets missed on a lot of members of any vehicle forum in general I've seen really because let's face it, we all want to show off our nice expensive stuff lol

Buuuut that's coming from the guy working with a piece of crap so, take it as you will lol it's been a pretty good experience, especially considering what most vehicle forums are like. This one feels like more of a small community of Jeep people and less like a mass of random people from all over the world. Bigger isn't always better!....At least that's what my woman keeps reassuring me.

Very little makes me happier than to help someone who needs or wants help. May or may not be known but I spend 100's of hours on the phone walking folks through how to do everything from a simple brake job, to full on custom builds. I enjoy reading about folks and their enjoyment of their vehicles and the passion they have for what they like. Mixed in there is a special enjoyment for tough wheeling that most won't ever get to try.

I have always been a gearhead, but was never into trucks until I packed the family up and moved out to Utah. I decided that we were going to get into the 4-wheeling scene because it is so accessible out here. Bought a TJ, didn't know a damn thing about 4wd, big tires, bump stops, etc. Now I've been to Moab in a Jeep!

If you ever get in a bind and this man pops up.... He's trying to help you. And he can . I don't know how to pay a higher compliment than to say someone knows what they are doing. That encompasses a lot and people don't get to that point unless they want to.

If you get stupid with him he's going to slap you around. . But only if you deserve it. Even if he does , you will have a strong urge to thank him.

Bought a YJ as a graduation gift to myself in 2007 (I still have it). I was hooked! Had a 1982 Volvo 242gt before that and it was gone within a couple months. A convertible 4x4 SUV?! I didn't know what I had been missing. though over the next year, the YJ literally broke every month, everything from clutch cylinders, water pumps, radiator, ignition problems, leaky top, etc. and I was getting annoyed (it's the 2.5L SE model. doesn't even have door locks).
Almost the year to the date in 2008 I bought this TJ. I had been on the forums enough to know that I wanted a dana 44, and a 4.0L engine and a hard top. about two weeks into looking (remember 2008 had a rescission) and at a Kia dealership, tucked in the back, was a completely stock, one owner 2001 sport that had been traded in because it didn't get good gas mileage.
Fast forward through the next 11 years of lurking on different forums and being too nervous to embark on any major upgrades I simply enjoyed driving it around and going on little trails. I've still never wanted a different vehicle and after I got my first house with a garage I started buying "big boy" parts and hording them and lurking on this forum until I was finally ready to take a week off and install everything at once!
This forum has been invaluable to me through all my trials and the very least I can do is speak up if anything I've learned can help someone else.

Also I have no Jeep friends in real life.

Except for Squach, after meeting him last weekend haha.

* Small community focused on TJ specific information. For the most part, a lot of bad info is disproved fairly quick.
* The forum is well built and indexed requiring minimal searching...although the search function is rough, it is still easier to find what you are looking for.
* I like the "wizards" approach to providing advice, almost like a college professor; "you are wrong, but look in this direction and learn why it is wrong". I enjoy learning, not just "here is the answer", I want to know why and how it works and what causes success/failure.
* I've always liked Jeeps, this is probably the first time I've really had the time/means to tinker without the Army sending to to exotic Sh#$holes.
* For the most part, everyone gets along, even in the politics section. Quite frankly, I've seen some of the most respectful political/social debates on this forum.

I've been posting on internet forums for decades. These are the types of places I gravitate to. Specific to what I'm doing, knowledgeable, helpful, and a good place to learn. I've been on computer programming, camera, bike, gun, political debate, and vehicle forums. Starting in the way back when I dialed in to reach the world.

It's what the internet should be, instead of the insta-snap-twitter-chat-book political/opinion/vanity spouting garbage it's become. I laugh when my kids think I'm just an old guy that doesn't know how to use technology. I taught myself to program 25 years ago and use it to optimize power plant operations. They use technology to take duck face photos and keep streaks, I develop and use technology to make a living and learn how to fix anything around me. Since I work on a PC all day, I don't care about broadcasting what I had for dinner on multiple platforms just to see if people like my choice. I use the internet to learn, but it's taking more and more effort to filter out the garbage.

I chose an older Jeep mainly because I wanted another place to go where I could disconnect from technology. Our latest plant has 18,000 + sensors recording continuously and tens of thousands more that aren't. I wanted a minimum of technological do-dads in my car. I almost bought a CJ-8 I found, but just missed it. I wanted AC anyway. I love the connection the 6 speed manual gives me with the car and road.

My next goal is to learn to weld properly, instead of like a monkey operating a stick welder.

I have frequented car forums for decades. I'm here to learn, first and foremost. So many experts, helpful, funny, and nice folks here, and @Chris runs a great forum. If I can help someone else, then I try to do so when I can.

I cover why I fell in love with the TJ in particular in my build thread (i.e. part assembly thread LOL), if anyone is interested. I've been in Toledo a long while and know many folks that have worked in the factories and in management at Jeep, Dana etc. I have always had a soft spot for our beloved Wrangler and now I finally own a TJ and a JK after years of lust and talking myself out of buying one, LOL.
