We've had several close calls at our house, and a forum member just lost his, so I've decided to make my place more defensible. The yard work and brush clearing is never ending, and the property is in much better condition than when I bought it. Last weekend I installed roof sprinklers, mostly for wetting down nearby vegetation.
10' riser pipe attached to the woodshed got this one roof level. I put a tripod sprinkler at the other end. Hose was just for testing, replaced with poly tubing.
Also put one over the pump house. Would be nice to have that survive, too.
These don't put out enough water to be an effective "the yard's on fire turn the sprinklers on!" system, more of a "there's a fire headed this way start wetting down the area." I'm thinking I'll run it preemptively when there's a red-flag warning.
We're on a well, so if the power goes out the water does, too. Electrician will be wiring up a generator hookup here in a couple weeks.
Our pump 10 gpm, so these 3 sprinklers is about all it'll handle. I want a system I can turn on a leave running if we have to evacuate.
The wood shed next to the house is a problem. Really shouldn't do that, but that's our main heat source. I'm thinking some kind of sprinkler system under the cover to wet down the wood.
