Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

#1 main is the one worn the most.

#2 looks better as does the rest.

I'll get everything cleaned up and then install the new main bearings tomorrow and plastigauge them.

I've got to order some gaskets before I reassemble the engine. Hopefully this will fix the oil pressure issue and I can move on with getting the Jeep done.

Of course I'm never done with it.

Not to be an armchair engine rebuilder but you reckon you out get your Crank Turned Ground and polished and your rotating assembly balanced

The crankshaft was turned and balanced before then I had all the work done to the block. I'm going to see what it looks like with the plastigauge and then go from there.

Sure looks like you got some trash somewhere in your oil system

There was gasket material in the oil pan from all the times I had the intake off when I was dealing with the 6 pack intake. My hope is that the whatever did the damage wasn't enough to hurt the crank journals and only did the bearings. Of course if the plastigauge doesn't read right I'll take the crankshaft in and have it checked out again and if needed turned and then have to run over sized bearings.

Dropped you an Email with a PDF from Mahle about bearing Wear

The only other note worth thing that happened was that I had a blown head gasket so had coolant in the oil but I didn't run it for very long before I'd realized what was happening.

I would sure give the oil passages a real good once over with some gun cleaning brushes probably even a hot tank first the the gun cleaning brushes

I've got a set of engine cleaning brushes and was planning on running then through all the passages.

Is this damage or something else

I'll have to double check the cylinder walls but I think it was just oil on them.

Those bearings look fine, the wear does not explain a loss of oil pressure unless the oil clearance was not in spec.

I'll know more Saturday. Have a VA appointment tomorrow and am waiting for a few things to show up tomorrow before I can put the new bearings in and check clearances.

Well FUCK ME running ... I know why I lose oil pressure once it's warm... And I might be SWAG here but I think I know why this happened too.

Remember that I broke the #5 intake rocker are and then the spring retainer cup on the #5 intake valve before pulling the heads back off to then find out that the heads that were supposedly checked hadn't been and that the valves were binding at .480 and I needed .550 minimum before binding. The cam bearings that are bad are the #3 & #4 bearings which I honestly think these two things are related. But now I've got to convince the machine shop that this was their FUCK UP.

I am assuming you saw the crack in your cam bearing journal

FUCK ME... No I'd missed that. So now I'm totally FUCKED... I doubt this machine shop is going to step up and fix this... Which means I'm going to be looking for either a new block or a new engine. Damn Damn Damn.....

It goes across the entire landing as well. I would expect it has been gushing oil/oil pressure this entire time.

I would be very pissed…

The two bearings were spun so that was where I assumed the oil pressure was going. But this just adds to it.

I'll get a better look at it tomorrow. But now I'm screwed...

Here's a close-up of that journal. I had my numbers wrong. This is the #4 cam journal. The two that were spun are #2 & #3.
