Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

I forgot that you lived there for awhile. Didn't need it in Ft Ord - at least on the seaward side. Over in Carmel Valley it might be nice once in a while.

I was born in CA.... Can't say as I claim it but I was...

As far as the whole A/C thing up until a few years ago military rigs didn't have A/C and when I served none did.... And I've been in a few hot places... So again YEP it's nice to have but it's also not the end of the world.

That Staph infection I'd had before I'd left on the trip had caused a few sores on my leg and they hadn't healed fully before I'd left on the trip but my doctor had said as long as I'd kept it clean I'd be OK....
Well I did keep it clean but the sores also didn't heal over the past week so I'm off my leg for a few days while I wait for them to heal. Once they scab over good I can wear my socket again and work on the Jeep...

Too much activity and sweat? That kind of crap sucks!

Where were you born in Ca? I hatched out in Santa Cruz - can't you tell? ;)

It was in the mid-80's or low 90's all last week and so YES too much sweat and activity...

Santa Maria.... Lived there until we'd moved to Chicago for my dad to go to Seminary school to become a Presbyterian mister. Live in IL for a few years and then came back to CA and lived in L A... Moved to WA from there then to AK & then back to WA. Joined the Army after that.

Starting to make sense now. Not so much present day, but Santa Cruz in the past...

Yep....

Yep....

My wife is from Chicago - we've been there a few times and I really liked it. Wouldn't wanna go there now, though. We had a fave hotel next to the Merchandise Mart.

Holy cow, Richardo - did you join the army so you wouldn’t have to move around so much?

😉

Until I bought my home here in Cle Elum I'd never lived anywhere longer than 3 years my entire life. I'd just always moved.

Now I'm a pack rat...

I'm still trying to heal up before doing any work so the Jeep is still on the trailer and parked in the driveway along with the motorhome.

But I figured a little post trip report would be nice...

It would appear that the wrapping & heat shield on the exhaust is keeping the shifter cable cool enough it didn't bind up or stick on me during the week. And I'd have to guess driving down the highway while maybe not as hard on the engine would still make enough heat that if it was going to be an issue I'd had a problem.
We've got a thunder & lightening storm happening at the house right now so I'm glad I'd put the trail cover on the Jeep yesterday.

Trevor...... Don't look. I know how squeamish you are.

My leg 2 days ago... Healing but still hurt when I put my socket on.

My leg today... I'd guess by Saturday I should be able to start working on things.

Got to clean the garage up some first so I can actually work in there.
Then I'll pull the radiator out and pull the thermostat out and test it to see if it's stilling. Already have a new one to install also.
The Camero fan will be here Tuesday and I can get it test fitted the Wizard Cooling radiator and then get it all wired up and reinstall the radiator as long as everything fits... While I've got the radiator out I've also got to look at the alignment of the York pulley to the alternator. It wasn't perfectly aligned before and I'd chewed up the V-belt during this trip. Was able to make it work the last day but it's on it's last leg.
Once everything is back together then I can start testing things out again and see if I still have the overheating issues or not.

OOPS..... Forgotten about one other thing I need to investigate and try to figure out WTF is happening...

On Wednesday of the week when I'd stayed in camp to work on the Jeep and try to figure out why it was overheating I'd checked all my fluid levels and found the engine to be 1 quart low on oil. So I'd put a quart in it. Then when I was driving into Kalispell on Thursday morning I could smell oil burning and when stopped I found oil leaking down the side of the engine. So my guess is that it liked being a quart low and when I'd added the extra quart it was self leveling?
I'll have to check my catch can and see how much oil is in there too...

So overall I was honestly happy with how the Jeep had done for the week considering all the road miles I was doing plus driving those forest service roads @ 25+ MPH for miles. I'm surprised I didn't have other issues.

@NashvilleTJ have you ever had issue with your engine blowing oil out @ highway speeds? I don't remember you having any.

No, never any issues like that.

I couldn't identify exactly where it was leaking from on Thursday and I'd guessed it'd self leveled by Friday because it wasn't leaking/burning on my exhaust anymore. The ONE good thing about driving around in all that dust was it helps identify where the leaks are a lot of the time.

I always joke that my parents signed my papers to join the Army cause I was eating them out of house & home... I was 17 & had a hollow leg... I'd eat a box of cereal for breakfast and half a loaf of bread into sandwiches for lunch. Then would eat dinner at my house then go visit friends and eat there too.

If you look at it in a positive way I got to live in a lot of different places for the first 40 years of my life...

One other things I'd forgot to mention was the transmission temperature during the week. Highest I saw the whole time was 215* and I heard the fan come on when I was stopping and then it was back under 210*. I never heard the fan come on while driving the Jeep.

Legs almost healed

First off.... Leg is driving me crazy and taking it's sweet ass time healing. Was getting some warmth off it yesterday but then today it was fine. Might still run into the doctors office and let them just look at it...

Camero fan arrived today.. Once I've got the radiator removed I'll know more about getting it to fit.

Take a picture of that plug for me when you get a chance so I can see if it’s the same as my harness.
