Winch & mount on stock bumper

I have the Tomken mount on my LJ, I welded a piece of square tubing on the back to the winch guard and bolted on some LED lights from whelen, pretty happy with it, the powder coating was crap though.....but it is 13 years old.......
That looks like some super duty orange connector- is that coming from the battery to power the winch?

Love the Anderson plug, I've done the same thing for easy removal, is that why you did it?
No, I did it so I could put a set of jumper cables if someone needed a jump. Of course I have not built the jumper cables yet.....and I now have one of those portable emergency jumper boxes....

It is, that is called an Anderson Connector. I also have one on the rear to charge/link the battery on my off road trailer to the dual battery system under the hood. You can get them in various amp ratings, I think that one is 300 amps?......

Yes that size is a bit undersized for our Jeep size winches that can easily draw >400 amps.
 
Warn recommends connectors rated at 175A for winches under 9500lbs, I'd think you can trust them?
You trust whatever you want, I'll trust what Warn's chart shows for typical amperage draws for a typical Wrangler size winch.

This shows a common winch size for Wranglers, this is the 9.5K winch which is what I run.

If you really want to believe a connector rated to 175 amps is up to the load either of those two winches can easily draw, you go right ahead. Personally, I have enough electrical expertise to know I wouldn't trust a connector rated to 175 amps for a winch that can easily draw well over 400 amps.
 
So you don't trust Warns advice on connectors?

Edit: it's kinda silly to quote Warns current ratings then ignore their own advice on connectors right? I mean you either trust them or don't.

I am not going to be so argumentative, I will leave it at this; the connector that is on there is the one Warn installed on the winch 10 years ago when the fire department that I bought it from purchased it. I have used it many times and it has not failed or even gotten hot. But then again I endeavor to keep the load on the winch as light as possible through rigging and mechanical advantage. I have yet to push the winch on my jeep to failure. I have pushed a 16,000 lb. warn winch to failure while teaching a heavy rigging and rescue class, fyi, an empty trash truck can not be uprighted with a single line pull on a 16,000 lb. winch, but creating a 2:1 performed the task easily.........

There's no need to push a winch to failure to pull more than double the amps that connector is rated for. Not all winching situations allow a winch to be babied.

How anyone can, in good conscience, claim a 175 amp connector is up to everything and anything a Wrangler size winch could be subjected to by this forum's membership is beyond me. Look at Warn's above quoted amperage charts again. Would that connector be up to easy uses like you described? Of course. What about the difficult recoveries that push a winch hard? Nope.

I have used Goodall plugs in the past rated for 600 amps. They cost $30 which is cheap insurance that nothing will burn up.
