Hi I have a tj and just about everything works fine but I recently noticed when installing the headunit there are a number of wire connected below into the part below climate controls such as a button that lights up but has no known use so I opened up the 4 screws holding that in place and saw several other wire attached into other sockets behind the area where you can install more switches and I am very interested to know what exactly they all do?

I am aware of the USB charger which works and the lighter but what is the purpose of the others? (2005 TJ)
Yeh thought the same thing maybe i sould by some switches? I noticed the rear wiper doesn't have a switch I can see unless it's the one that's already there and is perhaps broken.

If the car had options that required wiring, the wiring is often wired in and then blanked off.
If someone chose that option at the dealership, the hard work was done and all the dealer had to do was install the option and the switch.
For example: Toyota sell a base commercial car here where air con is an option. It's all wired in, and if the buyer want's aircon all the dealer has to do is install the parts and plug it in.

Yeh dealership pre wiring is a possibility or the dude before may have been doing something I just found it strange to see them all there and whether I should buy some switches to see what happens.
Wait really?! In that case I should just buy some buttons so I can actually use them right?

Does your jeep have a hardtop?
The switches may vary from different year models. I've seen some early TJs with the fog light switch down there.
Do the VIN search and see what your TJ was spec'd with from factory www.jeep.com
It could be there was an option for hardtop that the original purchaser didn't choose, but someone had fitted on later down the track and not connected up the wiring.
Yeah I do have the hardtop, but that's a great idea, and a good point I'll sus the VIN to see if it was perhaps originally a soft top, since I presume they don't use rear wipers? Thanks for your help this far!

I looked up the VIN and it gave me a lot of info but sadly didn't say if it was a hardtop or a soft top. It said it was a TJ sport H (highline) and mpv (multipurpose vehicle) and a bunch of other info but nothing on if it was soft or hardtop?
That’s what it is. My buddy has a TJ Rubicon that didn’t come with a hardtop from the factory. He’s got two blanks there, but behind them there are the plugs. All he had to do was buy the rocker switches and plug them in in order to get the defrost and rear wiper working when he found a used hardtop.
Ok thanks guys finally do you know where I can buy the switches that will fit these wiring harnesses? Out of curiosity I unplugged the one already attached to the switch and tried to connect the other ones to that but they didn't fit, do you know where to get the right size switches for these I'll post a photo below

no I tried that. I think I'll have to buy the original ones, I was just looking and they are really pricey sadly.
You need the factory switches. Your best bet would be eBay, http://car-part.com, or there's a chance the dealer still has some, in which case I'd get them here: https://www.wermopar.com
There is a seller on ebay (MLOCHRIDGE) that sells tj switches with the logos on them,(not oem.) He has them made..I bought the fog light sw and it works good..Just plug it in.Price is around $18 or so.It is worth checking out.The selection of switches is impressive.Just lookup jeep tj fog light switch.
