My enjoyment of the open-air feel drops dramatically once speeds exceed 45mph, so where I currently live, probably not. Oklahoma has a way of finding a way to give you a 30mph gusty crosswind no matter what direction you're traveling, and we're out in the sticks and going pretty much anywhere is a 45-60 minute round trip with stop signs every mile for most of it. When I lived in town it saw a lot more use for dinner/ice cream runs or picking the kids up from school on a Friday.

My wife and I are currently debating the prospect of moving closer to town because we're tired of spending all our spare time and money trying to claim this place from nature. Maybe the LJ will get some more attention again.

YUP. I live in the land of strip malls so I don't get to go off-roading. I used to ride motorcycles but the advent of texting has made that a suicide mission where I live, and it wasn't practical to suit up in a full face helmet, tech jacket and boots to run a quick errand (I know people ride in t-shirts and shorts but that was never going to be me). And no real way to carry anything.
The TJ gives me wind in my hair and sun on my face with my dog along for the ride, even if that ride is just a mini Costco run.

My wife and I are currently debating the prospect of moving closer to town because we're tired of spending all our spare time and money trying to claim this place from nature.

We experienced the same, or I did. It was so expensive to live in the country. Don’t get me wrong, we loved it, but it was a never ending drain on the money supply. Chickens, chainsaws, guns, horses, gas, fences, trailers, tractors, upkeep…It never ended and we were going to go broke with escalating property taxes.

A 3B is odd stuff? I thought they were ugly as sin when I purchased mine. That was 54 years ago and it's still here, albeit not quite in the same form as when I purchased it. Not to mention I've become rather fond of it. However I don't have the same sentiment for YJ's-——

I do enjoy driving my TJ now that it actually goes down the road like it should. Amazing what removing a 1/4" of slop in the control arms does-——

Its basically a side by side for me for off road use and local tooling around. My 4 angry squirrels does not like to keep up with I-70 speeds.

They probably just need to breed and double the population.

Yep. I think we could stomach it if we had bought something already "done" and we just had to maintain, but we bought virgin forest and told ourselves we could tame it and bring out it's potential. I'm coming to the realization that I could put another 5 years or $50k into getting to that point, or we could buy something that needs less for less money and use the equity to cut our house payment by $1500+ at the same time. It could be 3/4 - 1 acre closer to town, or it could be a similar sized piece of land but flatter and already landscaped or cleared.

My wife wants horses and I'm ok with that (as long as it doesn't fall on me to tend to them) but she's also freaking out about what's going to happen to all the wells if they end up putting in the data center that they're considering a few miles from here and thinks we need to be on city water.

I get serious off road (by my standards) only a few times a year. Beach and fire roads quite a bit more.
I drive the TJ every day. Love the simplicity.

They did make a 2WD JK when they first came out. Maybe they sold them in Florida. They still couldn't climb the mountain @Zorba had in his driveway.

I’ve never understood the hatred of square headlights. Having a YJ also I get comments about them. I have no intension of living anywhere that has no off road access. Where I’m at now I have hundreds of miles of trails and can be on one in 15 min from home. I like running the streets but only because I have manuals and enjoy running the gears.

There are a bunch of off road parks in the KY area. Hollerwood, Rush, wildcat and more. Might have to pay to ride, but it's never expensive.

Run my 97 TJ as my air shuttle vehicle due to lots of traveling for work, good on fuel nope, quiet and comfortable nope, but love driving it. It sees more daily driver status than the LJ.

I run my LJ as the trail vehicle, well I’ve been doing stuff to it in my spare time, but it hasn’t seen many trails recently due to trying to deal with the rain/water run off we’ve got recently. It’s like trying to plug a dam with bubble gum.

Got my first Jeep a year and a half ago. 2003 TJ sport. We weren't looking for a Jeep. We were just looking for a cheap vehicle to drive to keep mileage off the minivan. Trying to stretch the big car until the kids get out of school.

I thought I would only drive it a couple days a week. Man, it's so much fun. I just drive it all the time. On the highway. On the interstate. Around the neighborhoods.

If it's well maintained and not jacked to the sky, it's really not that bad as a daily driver.
