Congratulations to MagnumV8, the December 2021 Ride of the Month (ROTM)

Not a sunset photo, but I took this one with my iPhone 12 Pro. No Photoshop or anything, though I did add the “warm” filter. Without it the colors looked a little more dull.

I’ll edit the rules to allow filters, as long as they are tasteful and don’t do much other than enhance the colors of the photos.

Hopefully this will stop all the bitching and whining. But I guess I'm not suppose to have an opinion anymore.

But IMO that was a great picture and was due the win. But that is just my opinion.

I didn’t realize at first there was any photo editing. I just thought it was an amazing photo. I don’t know how much he edited the photo. It looks like it might just be a filter.

I'm not that SKILLED so I have no clue. But like I'd stated a while ago if people had issue with the photo it should have been brought up BEFORE the end of the month not after the fact. Again that is just my opinion.

As @rasband said, he may not have used any filters or edited it at all... After he mentioned HRD mode I did a little looking and it's not truly a filter. At it's core it's multiple exposures at different light levels when you snap the picture, then the processor combines them into one image.

"In-camera HDR

In-camera HDR is where the camera does most if not all the work for you. Setting your mobile camera to Auto-HDR will make it create a high dynamic range image itself.
The camera will typically take two, three, or more photos at different exposures very quickly one after the other.
The camera’s image processor will then combine the images to create one photo with detail in the highlights and shadows."

You’re right about that. A good photographer could capture a photo like this without any filters or effects at all, just the right lens and knowing what settings to use on the camera.

I know very little about photography, but I’m sure it’s possible if you’re knowledgeable enough.

My point exactly. Timing and lighting are everything. Some of the pics I posted earlier are out of a string of pics I took of the same sunset, previous shots were over exposed, later ones under exposed.

You're a photography expert now. Congrats!
Nope, never claimed to be, but you're sure are an expert at stirring up and instigating shit. "JJ the Shit stirrer" has a good ring to it. Or maybe.....🤔 Nah I won't go there.

Just joshing!!! Not really though!! 🖕

I recognize this is all very confusing for you.

No you're the one that's confused you admitted so earlier, so keep your story straight, oh wait is that an offensive term these days.. I wouldn't want to be canceled!!

Wow...this thread is something.

For those of you who don't know about digital filters...

Original shot, taken today...Been playing around with exposure and stuff, this one is underexposed...taken with my motorola One 5G.

Then I ran it through some Instagram enhancements...

It obviously a better photo...and I don't know what the hell I'm doing with digital enhancement.

I think the issue here is that the photo that won is obviously a product of digital enhancement...which is SOLIDLY within a gray area of the rules. Of course, when a site owner wins his own contest...I think there are other issues to be concerned with...
