Clunking sound under Jeep

Hey guys I have a 02 tj and recently put a lift on it. I’m hearing a clunking sound on the driver side when I’m getting up to speed in 1st gear. After a little time in 1st the clunking sound goes away. And when I am reversing slowly I hear that same clunking sound driver side. What could that be?

Also it module happens when I’m in the process of turning, like turning in reverse I hear the clunking

Any vibrations at speed or just sound?

Check wheel bearings, axle ujoints, driveshaft ujoints, tie rod ends, track bar, drag link ends, control arms, etc. Give them all a good shake and look closely for movement.

No vibrations at high speeds, just the sound when slowly going forward while turning and slowly going backwards while turning

Had the same issue, rear sway bar links were shot and the flex was causing metal to bump metal which resulted in the clunk sound. Basically as stated above, could be a lot of different things. Get under it and start checking.

Just checked the links, and they were fine, but moved to the drives shafts and twisted them and move a little, front and both

No it goes away when I get faster, but only happens when I’m slowly turning while reversing

Could it be the transfer case cable shifter

Sounds are elusive on these- so many connections and bushings under them-

Axle U joints are my top guess, but don’t rule out a loose cross member/ bad nutsert, and a control arm can raise Cane/Cain too.

That's normal.

Try stabilizing the transfer case lever with your hand when you hear the noise. If the clunking sound is coming from there your transfer case linkage may be shot (it often is) you may consider upgrading to a savvy cable shifter if you haven’t already

If its a one time clunk sound when you first move, I'll bet its your front driver side control arm. Retorque it while the Jeep is on the ground. Had the same issue years ago.
