Leaving Californy with a banjo on my knee

Yeah, because being able to ride my motorcycle year round, and hit mountains, beaches and valleys in a one ride sucks. And all of that BLM land in the states to go driving the Jeep in is just too much to stand. And the $720/year I pay in property taxes thanks to Prop 13 is just too much!

Probably should stay in Cali then.

Well, no banjo, but the house is in escrow, and we'll be moving to Virginia within a couple months. Virginia's not my first choice, but the wife said she doesn't want to spend the rest of her life living 3000 miles away from the daughter and grandkids. Some things a guy has to roll with.

We're close enough to retirement age to make it work. We're headed to the Hampton Roads area, or thereabouts. Going to load everything in PODS, then we'll take a leisurely trip across the US in the motor home with the LJ in tow.

Make sure you post up pics of your road trip. Best of luck to you, sir & stay safe.

To start, I really like your LJ. I have those same hood decals that I've been waiting to put on until I fix the cracking clearcoat on my hood, and your ROTM submission makes me think about ditching my frameless top for a squareback.

Now that I've hopefully set a more constructive tone, I'm going to man-splain the shit out of what came across really poorly from some other members because I have no idea whether it was clear between the lines to someone who isn't from the other 49 states.

I don't think anybody on this forum honestly believes any of what you listed are negative things and wouldn't love to have those in their own state. It seems to come as a surprise to some Californians I've encountered, but the people in the other 49 states don't just live there because they're not lucky enough to live in California. They do it because they like it the way it is where they are. I have no idea if Californians are generally aware of this, but they have a reputation (supported by data) for leaving California because of the results of progressive policy, then coming to a new place and voting and loudly advocating for that very same progressive ideology, clearing the way for more of them to come and inflate real estate beyond affordability for the people that were there all along. It's happened in Colorado, Idaho is next, Texas is getting it, I'm seeing it in Oklahoma (and even get looks from people when I say I moved here from Colorado, until I tell them I grew up here)...there's probably more states than not that are getting an influx from California and other high-tax, left-voting states like NY and IL right now and none of them want Newsom or Bloomberg's pandemic response, more taxes, infringed gun rights, weakened law enforcement, marxist programming in their schools, or any of that crap.

LOL, Okay.

None of that has anything to do with why we're moving. We're of retirement age, and my wife wants to be close to our daughter.

I wasn't the one who turned this into a political thread.

That's exactly my point. A few made the assumption that since you're from California and you like it (because of perfectly valid reasons) then you must personify the progressive agenda, and if you spend much time in the political forum here (which tends toward being a conservative echo chamber) it's easier to understand how people get into that mode of thinking without even realizing it. I have no idea what your political leanings are, but I know plenty of people that live in California and like it and aren't literally the devil so I know better than to make that generalization.

Lord this just keeps getting gooder and gooder, I am so glad I live in Alabama, seems all we have an influx of is more rednecks!!!!!!!

Too late, it's already happened here. Property values have at least tripled over the last few years in Central Idaho alone. One of the guys that has a cabin on my mail route just listed his home in Elk Bend. He bought it a few years ago for $70k, other than fixing a few minor things and one moderate plumbing issue, that he wasn't even aware of (not disclosed) when he bought it, he's made zero actual improvements. It's listing for $260k and it doesn't even have a foundation. A similar sized lot (@0.5 acre) with nothing but a double wide trailer on it (no trees no established lawn) about a mile from his place just sold for $200k. Rent averages went from $300 to $500/mth for a 2 to 3 bdrm home are now averaging $1200 to $1700/mth.
People are flocking to the area at a faster rate every year.

But in Alabama isn't there only 15 last names? (You know the whole marrying your sister or cousin thing.)

I kidd I kidd

Yes there are only about 15 last names in Bama, but it's not from marrying cousins, unless you are kin to @AndyG.....

The last name deal started in the elementary schools, it's easier to teach kids how to spell Jones, Smith and such names than it is to spell Montgomery or Birmingham :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
